WGSF 1030 hit by copper thieves

The curse of being an AM station operator these days. The alleged thieves should be punished severely for the theft and also be charged with environmental offenses (cable burning).


"MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police say copper thieves temporarily knocked a Hispanic radio station off the air when they stole $160,000 worth of copper wiring from the transmitter towers.

"On Sunday, May 18, WGSF Ambiente Radio 1030 AM lost its signal. When the station owner went to the transmitter towers on Jackson Avenue to find out what was wrong, he discovered the copper wiring was gone."
 
From the WREG story, "They were charged with burglary of a building, theft of property, and tampering with evidence."

I wonder if the Feds will add charges to that list?
 
Once again why any commercial radio station doesn't "trade out" security / alarm services is amazing. The are literally thousands of local independent and independent resalers of alarm systems. "From the (insert name or service) protected studios and transmission site this is (insert call call letters and COL)
