I wasn’t in the loop on a lot of things, but I’ll try to answer your question as honestly as I can.
Cap’s departure- in my opinion, WGSO went back on their contract. Cap can further elaborate on that. Again, my opinion, there was some backroom deal after Jak K came into the picture. Maybe it was an issue of cash, maybe it was an issue of manpower- I don’t know. But a contract is a contract, and whatever WGSO agreed to, should be followed for the time specified in the contract.
Regarding John Marie- let me start by saying, he is a stand-up guy. I’ve heard two reasons for his departure- 1) it was an issue of publicity and pay. 2) “personal reasons” which would indicate something with the girl. I’m sure it’s a combo of both. He was too good for WGSO anyway, and I’m sure we’ll hear “Judge Marie” in some other market. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone was threatened by him as well. John is a good-looking guy, very witty, and very smooth. More importantly, he is sincere and honest, even if not always very nice.
Crouere- don’t know him all that well. Supposedly a Libertarian. If he is, he’s further right than left for damn sure. Strikes me as a reasonable guy. Make no mistake though, it’s not his gig at WGSO that pays the bills- and everyone else knows this too. When a better offer is presented, he will move on.
Clancy- good guy, very hard worker. He spends a lot of time prepping for his shows. How he comes out with that product after all the work he puts into it, I’ll never know. I know he likes New Orleans, but a smaller market back east would be more welcoming to his style. He has a dry wit that translates better on paper. He is a very smart guy, and honestly, that doesn’t always work out so well when you have a call-in talk show.
Cyrus- now he’s a piece of work. I’m sure he has the best of intentions, but he’s an apple polisher. He spends too much time kissing management ass and not enough just observing the goings-on around him. He thinks he is what makes the station- the ‘franchise tag’, but when the time comes, and it will, he’ll be screwed over like everyone else. You’ll hear Mary (business manager) come on his show, “Capt Jak” (an investor without a title), and of course Mike Starr- when you do, notice how he plays up to them. It’s downright pathetic sometimes. I’d rather have my dignity in place. He’s all over the map. He is the most obvious case of adult ADD I’ve ever seen. One day he rushed into the newsroom frantically yelling, “I’ve got news, I’ve got news!!” It was Joe Bruno yapping about what was already on the wires. We re-aired it anyway, but I find it funny that Cyrus immediately called Starr to tell him how this “big story” was aired first on WGSO. Maybe he didn’t get enough attention as a child and really really really needs the gold star now. Too oblivious to be malicious or undercutting though- just incredibly self-absorbed.
On the matter of sales staff- it’s an interesting arrangement. They do make sales. I don’t know specifics on numbers, but I know they are asking too much. Regarding the staff- they have some shady deals. Apparently, some guy is a consultant on national sales, another guy is an actual local sales guy, and then there’s a girl who is there for. … well, I’m not really sure what she does other than spew obscenities all day. She makes sales calls, but she also works for her husband- too odd for me to even speculate on the organization. There is an element of nepotism there, but not entirely sure of the connections. And, that is the entire staff unless they have hired other people since August 17.
