WGSO sold

According to reports on Allaccess.com and radioandrecords.com, MC Media is selling it's last radio property, WGSO 990am to Northshore Radio LLC headed by W. Christoper Beary (and based out of the Orrill, Cordell & Beary law firm) for a reported $1.01Million in cash.

No word on any new format but ownership is spread over 10 members from mainly the northshore and Baton Rouge and purchase price does include the bizneworleans website and all related trademarks to the name.

Hey guys,
I heard about the WGSO sale, just didn't know it was finalized (apparently). I'm pretty sure that the Beary group also involves Mike Starr who used to be one of the owners at KTIB in Thibodaux before it was shut down. Rumor has it that they do plan on keeping sports involved at night and the studio should be moved to Slidell (closer to Mr. Starr's home base). I heard they may hire or have hired a news director and another rumor that they hired "The Twins" formerly of 92.3fm to be part of their morning show and try to become a northshore oriented station with southshore information for their commuters.
I haven't heard anything on whether or not the WWL-TV simlcast of the news would be kept.
Hopefully the station does well.

If Starr is involved, he would be in hiding as the ones listed on the FCC application don't include him or anyone with his last name as a member of the Northshore radio.

The announcement was for the agreement to buy the station upon FCC approval. But usually it's considered more of a formallity anymore unless one of the broadcasters has a strike against him or her

5 of the 10 member owners live on the norhtshore, two live or give addresses in Baton Rouge, and the lawyer firm plus two partners list the law offices Common st. address.

BTW.... Michael Starr isn't totally out of radio last I know.... he has investment interest in some stations in North Louisiana and Georgia.

Re: WGSO sold - DESTINED FOR FAILURE

How many times will this idea of a "northshore news station" fail before someone stops trying? With this cast of characters, this one is destined for failure. Oh, and by the way, THE TWINS? A surefire route to instant discredability (Is that even a word?)

Want to sink it quick...along with the "Twins" dig up Robert Namer & Ron Hunter. And for giggles, let Mikey program it. He's such a radio genius! (just ahead of an A. Hole on Poydras). There's a team of pyschos.

I just hope whoever ends up running that station keeps "Movie Talk" on Saturdays on. It's the only local radio show I listen to on a regular basis; the hosts are funny and informational and they usually have great guests on.

RON HUNTER? Where is he now? i started out with at the station in Bogalusa his family owned, and later went to WTIX.i've often wondered where he is and what's happening.how can i reach him?

Ron Hunter is alive and well....somewhere in broadcasting; doubts exist he's still in Louisiana. I remember hearing of his legendary airwork in Bogalusa--he was focused on his sound, which took him on a wild ride in broadcasting.

Would like to contact Ron Hunter.Anyone knowing his whereabouts please make a post.Yes he is a perfectionist and can be hard to work for, but he had amazing talent.Best adlibber i ever knew in radio and a prod whiz, He use to take agency spots ,one i remember was for HIS jeans, and recut them.twice as good as the agency produced one.Worked in TV, Chicago, Miami, Buffalo, New Orleans. His dad was mayor of Bogalusa forever, one of the kindest gentleman you'd ever meet.Lots of great airtalent went thru that little station in Bogalusa WIKC..Not sure what happened to me.Ha..

Hey, this brings back some memories... I wonder where Vinny was that night??? Speaking of Vinny, has anyone ever seen Vinny and Ron Hunter in the same place at the same time? Maybe that rug is hiding an identity????????

You embraced the sweet past of REAL radio. I was one a member of airtalent at WIKC, my first radio job. I believe Buddy Adams owned the station back in 1980 and hired a Houston guy named Mike Tiller to run it. Port Arthur jock Steve Young was PD. the "rock of Northlake" back then ran like a candle in a hurricane, being the C & W format ( thanks to Urban Cowboy / Dallas TV show influences ) swept the nation---and the radio biz was eyeing the profit potential of the format.

I recall listening to the Jack Wild show....he was an on-air great--so were Slue Thomas and Andrew Moses. You're right: a lot of legends came and went through WIKC airwaves in Bogalusa. I'm proud to have worked there.

I am looking for information on Slue Thomas. Anything would be helpful. My email is public is you would like to email me or you can just post a reply. Thanks.

Guess the bald-headed redneck racist GM over there finally achieved his goal of running WGSO into the ground. After selling "spots" for $1, trying to hire a woman to be a "bitch" to Bernie Cyrus in the afternoon, and selling air time to any Tom Dick or Wilkie in the market, GSO has finally hit rock bottom. Congrats to the moronic lawyer owners for allowing your rebel flag waving GM to ruin your station with his idiotic decisions and horrible mismanagement. Too bad they don't give tax credits to radio stations.

And I'm sure you've made great contributions to the broadcast industry.

Someday you'll grow up.
