I'm not sure if anyone knows this, but WGSR-TV has a new web page that looks
good, and best of all, they are streaming "Star 39" online at "www.wgsr.tv".
I've had the chance to catch it off and on over the past few weeks, especially
the "Star Talk" program that Mark Childrey does weekdays, the station is a
good product, and this channel deserves better treatment from "DIRECTV"
and "Time Warner Cable" in the Triad and should have a place in the "basic"
cable lineup!
 
Thank you for your kind words about our station. We try to serve our viewers, and are always looking for ways to expand our reach.

Within the next year, we will be "going digital" with a signal that will be viewable over-the-air to about three times as many people as we currently cover with our on-air signal, and we hope that expansion will interest TWC, DirecTV and Dish in adding us to their lineup.

In the meantime, keep watching!

Next year when you go digital will you also keep the analog transmitter running as well, something the other stations will not be able to do or will the FCC make you turn off the analog transmitter too? Also will you go HD then too?

I haven't discussed that with the consultants yet, but my understanding of FCC rules and regs would indicate that we can keep the analog going on 39 while we conduct program tests on the digital transmitter. When the digital is licensed, we definitely have to turn off 39.

The owners definitely want to do some multicasting, even leasing out one of the digital carriers if there is interest. We will have 720p capabilities, and hopefully 1080i.

I'm excited about the possibilities!

If the owners do "multicasting" when WGSR goes digital, one of those channels
should carry the "Retro TV Network"(if one of the Triad stations don't get the rights
first), the other should have, maybe, "America One".
 
I hadn't looked at the stream lately.... Looked low-res at 11 PM.

Have you thought about using Stickam or Ustream? Material I've seen there has better quality. I even streamed a Grasshoppers baseball game last Wednesday (and plan to stream the SAL All-Star Game Tuesday) using Ustream.

Just a thought, plus it's free.

It's in the hands of the FCC now. They have to issue the CP before we can order the equipment, and we're anticipating that word sometime this summer. If they approve it, we will be in good shape to be up and going with the digital by conversion date. If they don't, it's anybody's guess.

The on-air stream is an interesting critter. We don't stream the station ourselves...one of our viewers does it, and we really don't have any control over what he puts on that stream. When we get ready to do our own stream, we will consider whatever can do us the best job at that point in time.

Right now, doing our own streaming 24/7 has too many legal issues. If and when they sort these things out, we'll likely do it. BTW...the 'hoppers thing looked good.

The legal issues slipped my mind....

So while the station can not legally stream the station because of the boiler plates in syndication contracts; that doesn't stop a viewer from setting up a TV Card equipped PC to stream ANY TV or Cable Station to the Internet. When I was working for Pappas, I discovered several WB stations, where the same thing was being done. With all these streaming services, it's not surprising that more stations aren't streamed.

There's not enough lawyers to keep up with the Internet's streaming activities.... Just as long as the station is not directly involved.
