WGST Lowest Ratings Ever

WGST put in a stellar 1.1 in adults in the October trend, down a full sixty percent since the arrival of Bloomquist. Billings are down even more.

Maybe when they get to a .5 and they're losing to WGKA John Hogan will admit to a mistake.

There is no one who can convince me that the total destruction of CC in Atlanta last year wasn't intentional. Especially Lite. Is it a coincidence that going private was happening at the same time? No one with any experience in the business would think that wiping out ALL the talent in the cluster would lead to anything but disaster.

Seems like too many peeps would have to be on board for that to be the case. I say it's good, old -ashioned management incompetence.

That’s what happens when you fire most of your staff, flip formats, kill legacy brands, and ruin Christmas. It's been over a year now and I’m still not listening to any clear channel owned stations because of what San Antonio did in Atlanta.

WGKA is already beating them in many dayparts, mainly 6AM-Noon. Some hours they are beating them more than 2 to 1 in demos. Rush is the ONLY thing holding them above a 1 share 12+

It does surprise me that Bill Bennet beats WGST. I would think local programming would beat Bennett...but maybe that programming needs to be good.

If these numbers hold then that means that the Glen Beck experiment may be failing for a second time at WGST. I thought that he would take a chunk of listeners for Ingraham.

Rush is king on the station and Ramsey does respectably. Outside of the two of them though the station is a ghost town.

Speaking of Ramsey and WGST....I don't know if any of you saw it, but in today's Inside Radio there is a trade ad for the Dave Ramsey Show. In the ad, it screams "WGST/ATLANTA: #1!**"

If you read down to check out the double-asterisk qualifier, it says in tiny italics: "**(#1 rank vs. rest of station in Women 25-54)."

Hilarious.

So Ramsey has better women numbers than Rush?

WGST has a crappy signal right now i hear?? Maybe this is the cause of such bad ratings!

It's the same signal they had 2005 when they had three times the listeners.

Just for the record Ramsey is 23rd in adults.

I wish GST would give away some prizes. With only a handful of listeners it sure would be easy to win something.

Has WGST ever considered returning to a FM signal and moving there permantly?,
No one on AM can compete with News/Talk 750 WSB, at least on FM they can draw
better numbers than a 1.1.

That idea has been proposed and shot down at least 3 times over the past 5 years. Seems like it would have been smart...just moving Rush to a signal where his core could hear him is probably worth at least another share point, maybe more, for the station's overall metro numbers...and certainly their A25-54 target.

Atlanta Radio Philosophy 101

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it..........it's ratings would be just about the same as WGST's.

Wanna hear a funny story? The brilliant minds at cc launched an FM talker (105.3) a while back. Was it a GST simulcast with Rush? No. They used what I considered second rate talent and made it more like competition for GST. On top of that, they didn't even give it a chance to build an audience before pulling the plug.

All I've seen from cc in the last few years is one bad move after another. They're getting exactly the market share they deserve.

Beck, Rush, Ramsey and Savage would all do well on the FM dial...WGST will never compete with WSB but on the FM dial they would HAVE to do better than they do now!

You're right, SignalFaded; Beck and Ramsey especially would do well on FM. I don't know why the other poster called Beck's airtime an "experiment". The guy is on almost 300 stations and has finally closed in on Ingraham; some experiment.

As to Ramsey, his ads are pretty funny. Every station is another double qualifier. #1 vs. rest of the station, #1 in women, #1 in 18-34, #1 y2y growth, etc. I think he is probably a decent fit for Atlanta and some other markets, but I'll always remember living in Phx a couple years ago when he was on the absolute worst brokered talk station in the market. Apparently he's come a long way since then, but that will always stick in my head.

They were quite competitive when they were simulcast on 105.7, certainly better than MIX and all the other bonehead experiments launched by Marc Chase and John Hogan. What do you expect from two guys who took 94.9 from a six share to a 1.8?
