WGST

Out, Mr. Tom Huges is out, today is his last day. Any of you soothsayers, what say you? I'll miss his morning humor and it looks like its just another reason to listen to WGST less. The Princess is asking how quickly Denny will be gone.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

Interesting. I didn't beleive you at first, so I jumped on the webcast, and certainly enough, he just gave his farewell.

Perhaps he's going to launch over on 105.3 if it flips to a 24/7 news format....

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

The King actually sounded relieved about leaving this morning. Can't blame him. Considering how the likes of McDonnell, Dukes, Chase, Deskins, Bloomquist, Collins, et al have ran that station into the ground. Enjoy your retirement, King!! So, who takes over??

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

I wonder when this decision was made. Denny at the start of his show said send your e-mails to Randall Bloomquist. I wonder if this means a GST simulcast is coming to 105.3. Tom leaving would give it a fresh start. It would help solve the Braves programming on the FM side.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

It was very interesting to hear what Neal Booortz had to say about all this. Tom Hughes' exit was the very first thing he talked about this morning. He wished Hughes the very best of luck, talked about how rough it was to compete against Scott Slade and that Hughes did the very best he could, and how much of a hellhole "The ex wife" had become.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

...the revolving door continues...

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

Just when you thought WGST could not possibly be any less relevant.....

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

Wow, that's really sad. I have always preferred his style of Slade's (more humorous). Not happy about this change... man, so many things they've done over the past year make no sense to me. Damn you ratings!

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

So who replaces the King? I don't think they are going to go long withoug a morning drive host. Is this where Fin fits in? Could there be some combination of Fin and Art Madman Mehring in the morning. Maybe Srt taking Hughes place and Fin taking obvere traffic? Fin is staying on with CC Atlanta so where else does he fit?

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

I thought of Fin as well. He showed on several occassions at 96rock that he is capable of going beyond being a music jock and doing more talk-oriented programming. Madman also has that capability. It's been weird but nice to continue to hear him do traffic on 96.1...the only thing remaining from happier days.

Clearly, I really don't think Fin will be at 96.1. So that leaves it to whatever is coming to 105.3, WGST, or something to do with The Braves (or 94.9 if that was to flip).

Respectfully, I think Art Mehring should just stick to traffic or sports. Nice fellow, but he just does not have the interviewing skills and knowledge that Tom has. It would be interesting to have "Sports" Page (Eric Page) try out for a few days for delivery and interviewing skills. Then Art could move over to sports. Regardless of the selection, this individual has some sizeable shoes to fill. There are several news folks that have left WGST in recent years that would be acceptable if they would return or get back into the business, but are probably smart enough not to return under current management. We are about to see how competent WGST management is by the quality of the selected replacement.

Alternatively, I just do not see me listening to WSB for morning news. I know everyone just loves Scott Slade and his crowd and his peers have bathed him in all kinds of awards. Too busy, dry, and the commercials and news content flow together . . . Plus, it is Cox . . .

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

Checking the WGST website, it looks like they are going with 3 hours of the The Wall Street Journal This Morning, which is also on WGKA from 5 to 6am. Also, Mark Levin will be on from 7 to 9pm. Not sure where Dave Ramsey goes. Basically, 16 hours of syndicated programming. Don't be too surprised if MJ/Schnitt takes over for The Kimmer. Bloomquist has truly lost his mind.....

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

I was sorry to hear that Tom has left the airwaves. I had the privilege of working alongside Tom a few years back when he first left WGST and landed at the Cox Radio operated LMA at WCNN. As all the posters say - he is indeed a class act. Radio will miss him and I can only hope that in a few months we hear his voice and immense talent back on the radio somewhere again.
I know for now all the seats are full at Cox Radio, but maybe down the road Tom might consider a move down the street again.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

I am assuming this is a mistake but the GST website say WSJ this Morning starts at 8 a.m. Either way what a lame choice. This isn't New York City where everyone makes their living in the Financial industry.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

They fixed the website about the time. What's interesting about this show is that it's only LIVE from 5 to 6am. It is then re-fed for the other time zones, with some live news updates from WSJ. Basically, Bloomquist is having a morning show that's on tape. Does Dave Ramsey replace The Kimmer? ??? ??? ??? ???
WGST is very close to becoming a station where 165 hours out of 168 in week are syndicated, or 166 when Rhonda Duffy runs a tape on Sunday mornings..... :-\ :-\ :-\

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

So if GST is going to be airing the WSJ Report, will that force 920 to do something different? I can't believe two ATL stations will be airing the same syndicated show at the same time...

Why not? Nothing in Atlanta radio makes any sense these days.

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting? Kimmer gone too it appears?

WGST website now shows 'The Sports Page with Eric Page' in Kimmer's slot...

Re: WGST - The Changes Are Starting?

Dave Ramsey is now on 3 to 7. Could this all be a stunt?? Maybe 105.3FM goes talk?? ??? ??? ???
