Eric,
It's great to hear from you. You, Nancy and Mike all lived and breathed radio. Your passion for radio was contagious and spread throughout the whole staff. I started out as an intern at Peach in the early 90's and moved on to promotions at WGST before eventually becoming the Events Coordinator for the cluster. I was the Events Coordinator and the Promotions Director for WGST my last couple of years there. I volunteered to do both jobs when the WGST Promotions Director job came open. I only did it because I love WGST and somehow thought that we could bring the magic back. I can tell you that the spark for WGST was lost and never came back after you guys were gone. I didn't know much about radio when I started but I brought a lot of creativity and an incredible work ethic to the table. You helped me channel that energy and creativity and tought me a lot about radio. I couldn't wait to get to work each day to see what we could do to screw with WSB. We brainstormed each day and you made me feel like a part of the team even when I was a lowly Promotions Assistant. We were low budget and low signal but we gave them a run for their money because we cared. The last few years of WGST were really sad. Kimmer and Tom have tremendous talent and there were still many talented people in the newsroom. Unfortunately, there was no promotion for WGST and they systematically dismantled the support staff and the pieces. They took Pete Davis, Jim Gossett and Wayne "no offense" from Kimmer and took Tom's last hour (the only hour you could hear him) away. Let us not forget that Pete Davis did an evening show that competed very well with Braves baseball. It's a shame to see Pete not in radio any more. And, it's an even bigger shame that WGST is gone for good. I wonder what the late great Keith Kalland thinks about all of this as he looks down from above. I know they are celebrating at WSB and they should be. They don't have anyone trying to put up a fight anymore. WSB has always been a class act and it was fun trying to compete with them.
