Nice big article on page C1 of the Kenosha News today. Looks like some time in the future, WGTD-91.1 (Wisconsin Public Radio/Classical)will be getting translators in Walworth County. Lake Geneva and Elkhorn. The project has been delayed for various reasons but here are some of the details:
A new tower will be constructed by Cingular Wireless to replace WGTD's current tower. It will transmit Cingular's signals, plus WGTDs and space will be available for other people to lease. The taller tower will allow the equipment that sends the feed to the translators to be installed.
The translators will transmit from the Lake Geneva water tower on 103.3 and the Walworth County Sheriff's Department's Elkhorn office on 101.7
Leases for the translator space at Lake Geneva and Elkhorn will be $600. A CP was issued for this project in September.
Gateway serves Kenosha, Racine and Walworth Counties and because Walworth county tazpayers are paying tax to Gateway and cannot hear WGTD which is also part of it, they are building the translators.
Kenosha News does not publish their articles on their website so I am giving you a rundown.
WGTD also has a subcarrier that features reading service for the blind. I don't know if they'll put that on the translators or not.
