WGTM Rumor Mill

I don't know how they're doing it, but GTM is back on the air. It sounds crappy as ever, but it's on.

yep...I caught them yesterday while on 64 in nash county...their signal was real weak..but whoever was on the air "the lady of gospel" was advertising a nude video, tanning bed and handbag store..."get your vhs tapes 10 for $10 and if you gots that arthritis get in a tanning bed" SMH (shake my head)

So typical Willis - so bad! No one would spend the money now after the Willis destroy job to buy it and bring it back. I'm positive if someone tipped off the FCC things might change. Sounds like they were on the Night Pattern when you unwisely tried to moniter. GOD SAVE WGTM from this!

I doubt anybody would buy that dump...the FCC has done nothing for years...rumor has it that they have a "friend" at the FCC to keep those stations on the air...

considering the FCC came down AND fined WWDR AM 1080 Murfreesboro for running 133 watts more than their licensed power..and not signing off at night...theres DX reports as far away as canada...

WGTM with 10kw at the current approved pattern is not available now. 570 in Raleigh juiced up recently, and other stations in nearby states have changed patterns/power as well. 10kw with a new pattern may be an option, but it would really screw up the signal. A move to Greenville with 5kw non-directional daytime, 100watts night time looks good. (Class-D 1 tower) But I would have to find the time to do the math.

For me, WGTM is dead. It has been for years.

And did you know that the Campbell family still owns the studio real estate? I just looked it up on the Wilson County GIS server.

Todd, it looks to me like moving WGTM to Fayetteville--say, Spring Lake as a COL--would be technical possibility with roughly the same patterns & power. Only about 65 miles down the road, so fitting it into the AM geographic/signal puzzle wouldn't be much different than Wilson.

But Fayetteville is a city big enough to support one more strong AM signal in a news, talk or sports format of some sort--and a market where at least one other AM, 640/WFNC, does pretty well.

Frankly, being right smack next to FNC on the dial could be a huge marketing advantage. At least some listeners would stumble over it by mistake...

Yea, Kinda. I have been doing a little work there. I am trying to clean the site up a little. They are paying, but I am not charging much because I hate to see that site so bad. Bill Bunn was a family friend and It was because of him I got into this Biz. Tom Campbell and Jim A had a lot to do with my start and I appreciate thier understanding and patience. I have a great deal of respect for that site. They are on the air with a Gates BC1H. The Continental has screen supply problems, and they are trying to get the $ to put it back. Over the next week, I am riding the pattern to see how bad it is. I figure if it is at 1kw, It should be within the deepest null at 5kw until I can see what is going on. ED

I'm glad someone is making an effort to restore WGTM's sound, once that is done, i hope a new owner will purchase this, even though AM stations are losing money these days in smaller markets, but Wilson needs told hold on to 590.
