WGTN: News/Talk No More...Now Classic Hits

That is what I am getting as I tune in this morning. Instead of Wall Street Journal This Morning, I get a mish-mosh of classic hits ranging from the 60's to the 80's.

Listening to the stream here in Connecticut. No IDs, just continuous classic rock with long pauses between songs. Looks like they're just keeping the transmitter warm while deciding what to do with the AM long-term. And this is definitely classic rock, not classic hits. I hear no pop or soul in the music mix at all.

And here comes Badfinger's "Baby Blue" again, for the second time in as many hours. A loop, perhaps?

Mercy Mercy Me -- Marvin Gaye.

Imagine -- John Lennon.

Hmm...

Ironically, WGTN-FM is still easy listening.

Not as easy as it was. Some years, Easy 105.9/Easy 100.7 gives the proper amount of time to artists such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett. Other years, there are plenty of standards but most of them are by Rod Stewart and Michael Buble. This year, the only "standards" I heard were a song by Michael Buble, a"duet" between Nat and Natalie Cole, "Theme from 'A Summer Place'", a song by Engelbert Humperdinck and a duet between Frank and Nancy, which I'm not sure counts as a standard.

I did have a problm with the station identifying as "soft AC" on the Arbitron site and on the site where I get my Arbitron ratings, but there's not all that much difference between this station and WDUV these days. Or is there?

WGTN still can't make up its mind on which format they want to air. They're still flipping between News/Talk and Classic Hits.
