WGTV-DT now on air

WGTV-DT (GPB) is on the air, at least on Comcast Channel 816 (should be 808 to match the analog position, as Channel 16 is WPBA, although 807 is TBS HD because 839 is used for National Geographic HD). I don't know about OTA Channel 12.

It looks like they are still in the testing stage. the station ID and word "Digital" is burned into the picture.

It took them long enough. They were suppost to be on-air three years ago. Their DTV conversion program was severly mismanaged. First, they were going to have the Georgia Technology Authority run the bidding for GPB (although GPB is capable of doing so), which involved new analog transmitters as well as digital transmitters for both radio and television. Now, it is an emergency expense for the digital transmitters.

I don't know what multicast offerings GPB will offer.

According to Wikipedia, WGTV's digital signal at ch.12 has been on for quite some time, but at only 16kw, to protect WDEF's analog signal on ch.12. They expect to remedy this in 2009, when the digital signal moves to ch.8.

Maybe Comcast just recently added it to their line-up.
