Just Wondering: Who thinks that Wgun could do better, or sound better programming wise? I know that the station sells a lot of brokered block
programming,but I think(Sorry Just a thought)that they could possibly do
any kind of talk format, or news format, or something. I remember the News
Talk format they had run prior to now, but maybe just maybe something to compete with WGKA? It just sounds so boring to me... I mean its o.k. to have
Duke and The Doctor, and To Your Health, but how many times can you hear about
Re-Live, Good God, comon lets try something. O.k.now Im done, You all out there
can let me have it.. Sorry for interupting ! Have a nice day....<P ID="signature">______________

I'll agree with the "sound better" part but that's it. You're not going to compete with WSB, WGST, WGKA, WALR, etc. Why muddy the waters? They could improve their image by getting a decent morning or afternoon show to lure in high-paying brokered clients, get higher-paying brokered shows like local mortgage brokers in PMD, etc., but the format is fine.

Running infomercials at 2:00 in the afternoon kills audience. Get decent sounding shows (Duke and the Doctor is the LEAST of their worries) that pay. There's no reason they couldn't get $500-600/hr for every daytime hour. Of course, that would make up for the dead signal at night.

I would advise them to pick up Glenn Beck. GST, IMHO, was stupid to drop him, but even so, for a weak station like 1010 to be able to get a talent with local name recognition from a big station would be good. Run him 5-8 or 6-8 at night to build audience and promote the rest of your crappy shows. Promote the hell out of him when pitching clients... "we stole him from a Clear Channel station!"

In order to make money off going talk, someone has to go out on the streets and sell it....personnel, over head.

With brokered talk, a rep places the shows and sends the tapes. No overhead, no personnel, and huge cash flow without all the hassles. Besides, with limited pre-sunrise and post sunset power, they would have a hard time registering enough ratings to get any agency buys so then you're out trying to sell businesses which don't typically buy much radio advertising. Takes lots of people to make that happen and you would be going after dollars from businesses which don't have huge advertising budgets.

So, open the mail, deposit the checks and put the preacher on the air.
