WGUY & WFZX PUT IN TRUST

I would say WFZX has a better signal in Bangor but WGUY is more centrally located so they could very easily target Waterville or Bangor with the same level of signal

I wonder what this means for WGUY and U maine sports (probably nothing, but so far all I've heard that have signed on for affiliates are Clear Channel/Good Radio.tv stations)

Both WGUY and WFZX actually come in quite well here on Mount Desert Island, esp. on the western side. I still miss WGUY when they were smooth jazz a couple years back. The format lasted exactly one year...It wasn't given the proper chance or opportunity to form an audience., IMO.

BTW there was a public notice printed in the Wed. May 31 edition of the Bangor Daily news on all of the CC stations change of ownership application. (Including WGUY and WFZX)

Smooth Jazz was never going to succeed and a real BAD idea for Bangor. The word is it was the favorite music of the sales manager at the time.......Kelly...last name escapes me....so CC figured why not? The station has a decent signal..you would think AAA would fly up there ala WBOS.

Jazz didn't work and AAA wouldn't work either because you piss off the oldies listeners (The WGUY call letters have always been associated with 60's and 70's music, going back to the 100.9/1250 days)

AAA is already done on 103.1 WDME in Dover (although the signal doesn't reach Bangor I think Stephen King just uses it as a tax write off, although he may want to pay attention more now that 'ZON lost U Maine sports)

As I recall, a few years back 101.7 actually was AAA, then when bought out by CC they became WFZX with their present format.

Also former WMDI 107.7 Bar Harbor was an excellent AAA station until it was sold to "WBACH" and became classical 4 years ago.

But you have a good point, AAA could fit in nicely here in Bangor/Ellsworth market.
Any suggestions who should try for it???

And I still miss Smooth Jazz 102.1

I've always thought that WEZQ would be great for a AAA station. It seems like the AC battle in town is consistently back and forth, even tho Kiss is heritage. Why not flip WEZQ and let both companies benefit.

WDME doesn't sound like a AAA station. I would bet it's more of an AC.

There is another "Public Notice" of the sales transfer for both WFZX and WGUY in the legal notices of Tuesday's Bangor Daily News.

There's more money to be made with an A/C format than AAA. Kiss generally has always been a tad hotter than EZQ. There is certainly room for both stations in the format.

The oldies format is dead. GUY should be the one to flip to AAA. Change the call letters too while you're at it.

I think that you will find that once a new owner for WGUY comes on board, the signal will improve greatly, in Bangor. Just as WNSX did. See, CC "turned" the signal away from the Bangor metro to comply with FCC regs. When the folks at WNSX discovered the dish was turned away from their coverage area, they made an adjustment and voila! Much better signal... same with WGUY... nice signal for someone to pick up.

RosieDo, unless something has changed in the past few months since I was last in Bangor, the WNSX signal is still very shaky in Bangor. Which is too bad, because they're one of the better stations up your way. They do charge up and down the coast very strongly, though.

And also, the FCC won't just let a radio station shoot their signal somewhere else on a whim. We're talking lots of applications and permits to do a thing like that.

the oldies format can work on WGUY....you're sitting between Waterville and bangor, the problem is clear channel is making it an infomercial heavy station and it needs to drop the satellight feed (one of the worst sat-fed stations i've ever heard) and start programming it local

As the current ops manager of WNSX, and the Program Director of WFZX & WNSX when it was with Clear Channel, I can tell you that the coverage problem was due to a transmitter that desperately needed a tune up, and a tower that needed to be trued up. Once those two issues were out of the way, the coverage improved. Thanks for the comments on the station, we work hard to make it sound good, we have dedicated crew, a great engineer, and two wonderful owners in Mark Osborne and Natalie Knox.

Another problem....the new owners also have WABK in Augusta..a gold based station. They certainly aren't going to compete with each other.

not the new owners of WGUY, since it's being put in a trust to sell....... the new owners have some sorting out to do between their Augusta AC and 'ABK, their 70's and 80's library is larglely the same (alot of John Mellencamp, Donna Summer, Doobie Brothers between the 2)
