WGVC doesn't make the GSP ratings again - what's next?

Ouch! Pretty pathetic when stations like WSRV, WPJM, WRIX, etc are beating a 25,000 watt in-market station.
Has anyone heard any rumors about what's going to happen? It's clear that Entercom is going to have to do something. They should just go back to Oldies. They have to be planning something.
I wonder what they'll do with Cooper Lawrence, Dr. Joy Brown and the woman at 6-7pm from Chicago...

I just saw where Citadel has brought the format back up in Knoxville, replacing 'Earl FM.' Come on Entercom!

Don't get your hopes up boys. Entercom is as predictable as they come. Look for another "We Play Everything" station coming to 106.3 FM soon.

Good evening chick...good to see you around, you called it the last time, glad to hear your input.
Maybe Variety hits would get them a 3 share or so. The format is sort of rock based though...with Rock, Planet, and even Magic to a certain extent, that would be a lot of overlap. I still say, anything's better than female talk.

Good points. But these are the people who took an Oldies station off the air and replaced it with a Christian/Country format that was already failing! Then they put on a female talk station that everyone knew would fail except Entercom. Variety Hits it will be.

Yeah, when Chick predicted it would be women's talk before, we all thought she was crazy. Turns out it was Entercom that was crazy.

It seems to make sense though. Here's another format Entercom can put on and run on the cheap without many expenses. But I'd happily take that over women's talk any day.

I wonder when they will actually drop female talk. Will they run it until Friday (when Greenstone ceases) or drop it before, stunt until Friday, or what? I think they dropped The Walk on a Tuesday, but I'm not sure.

Entercom doesn't like the Oldies format in general. They have killed it off in Greenville (2X), Portland, Greensboro, Rochester, and some other places...they swapped the Oldies station they got from CBS Radio in Cincinnati with Cumulus...sold the one in Seattle to Bonneville, etc. I think they have two left. Such a shame, because they really do a good job at it.

I feel if someone like Citadel or Cumulus had bought WGVC we'd still be hearing Oldies on there. Those are more smaller-medium market companies (well not Citadel as much anymore) that don't seem as 'trigger happy' with the format as Entercom. Heck, as much as I dislike Clear Channel....they have kept most of their Oldies stations in markets the size of GSP.

I did my usual domain name checking, and found out that Entercom has just registered 1063charliefm.com on August 9th.

Could Charlie be coming to the upstate?

Last time they registered 1063thevoice.com but never used it.

Good going is right! I don't think Entercom has a 106.3 anywhere else do they? We know they have to change formats, and that they like to do Variety Hits AND that they have "Charlies" in other markets. It's either going to be Charlie or they are trying to throw us off track by registering that domain name. That's too clever for Entercom. It will be Variety Hits; you can put that in the bank.

Charley up in mad town has had some decent books, but this time they were down a bit... VH stations allways needs to be re-inventing them selves... That is the beauty of a VH format... CC1

Looking at YES.com, WCHY seems to play quite a bit of older music, such as The Twist, I Got You/I Feel Good, Old Fashioned Lovesong, Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours, Twist and Shout, and Bad, Bad Leroy Brown within the last few hours. Doesn't look THAT bad. It's no Oldies format, but it's better than nothing.

Such a move guarantees that Country or Urban will hold the top spot in the market for the foreseeable future. No more #1 finishes for WMYI or WROQ. It also hurts WSPA, which has been doing a little better.

Yeah, and it can't help 96.7 either, if it really counts. This will hurt 'SPA even more, but I haven't listened to them in quite a while due to the fact that they play so much recent music, so they may sound different.

I can definately see how this would hurt WMYI. I guess that was part of Entercom's logic in this move....wait, I used Entercom and logic in the same sentance. They have none of that!!!

What Entercom fails to understand, if they indeed go "Jack" in Greenville, is that "Steve" hurt CC's other Columbia stations so much, it had an overall negative impact on billing for the cluster. Even with great numbers, they haven't been able to get the rates up enough on "Steve" to offset their losses due to a sereis of sucky books on WNOK and WCOS.

Exactly! Also, they're a little late in the game...actually the Variety hits format has recently been dropped in quite a few areas. I guess it doesn't hurt to try it, but it will definately not help WSPA and WROQ.

;D Only from the great minds of Entercom!! The same people who thought "Chick-talk" would work! Yeah-boy, that bunch knows what the upstate wants!!! I bet they will take it "Polka" and have "Big Joe's Polka show" on as a Saturday night dance party! Only from the RAZOR-SHARP minds of Entercom!!!

AS a borrowed statement from a local radio veteran:
"Intern to PD in 18 months- no expierince needed!"
