There's no significance. Entercom uses the names Charlie and Simon in other markets, so I guess it's just easier for them. They'd never choose Jack because they'd have to pay the licensing fee.
Too bad they didn't come up with a name that goes with a local figure like with Steve-FM in Columbia. I guess it's harder for the Upstate... can anyone think of a good name they could have used that ties in with a local figure?

The signal seems pretty good to me throughout most of the market, until you get to the Anderson / Clemson area.
I know that was a problem for them when they moved the Walk to 106.3, they lost a lot of 103.9's coverage area.

Okay. I must be missing something. Who is the "Steve" local figure in Columbia. I've heard the station and never even thought of linking it to anyone.

It was rumored that Steve-FM was named for USC football coach Steve Spurrier. He started at USC at about the time the station signed on.

Here's a broadcast story from WYFF on Charlie-FM.
I found it interesting that 103.3 was on the presets that Gordon Dill switched.
Nice to see Charlie's empty studio. Of course, for the story they put somebody there to stand in front of the computer and turn the sound up and down.
Looking at the interview with Sharon Day gives me a hunch that she was probably the primary backer of the women's talk format fiasco. She just seems like the kind of person to fit the Greenstone demographic.

My thought exactly.
While I'm sad that WGVC didn't go back to Oldies, Charlie isn't that bad. I think it's pretty safe to say we won't be getting an 'oldies' station (60s and 70s) any time soon, if ever again. Entercom won't do it, CC isn't budging with the Country stations, and seems happy with 96.7 as it is...Cox won't be flipping JAMZ any time soon, and probably not 98.1, they seem to get by. 103.3, 105.3, 103.9, etc are all brokered out.
I guess our only hope for older music is WMYI. They play a lot of 70s Oldies and I even heard 'Rescue Me' from 1965 the other day and a couple of Supremes songs. Sad that none of the broadcasting companies in the upstate are willing to step up to the plate entirely, but the area is certainly not alone.
