Interesting. Wonder if they will do anything with it....Fox Sports Radio off the bird? Move Shine to AM (not likely)?

It's pretty tough for an Spanish AM on a not-so-great signal to survive with 103.9 nowadays I guess. They were the first in the area.

In our area a lot of the spanish speaking people have gone back to Mexico since the depression has killed off so many jobs. I would think that this has probly happened in most areas there by cutting back on the number of listeners and money to a spanish station.

Good point Gatekeeper. Wonder how long they will keep this up. Shine has not been a success at all on FM and now they've added a 5kw AM that is broadcasting the same format, I doubt that is going to grow the audience. They certainly don't want silence on the AM so this is probably temporary until Clear Channel can decide on something else for 1440....personally I'd like to see sports talk.

BTW....like I always have to say when talking about this station...that 4 tower array is the best broadcast site I've ever seen.

i think a directional 5kw am station that is simulcast with a low wattage fm station that has poor ratings is doomed. i am guessing those properties will be sold.

Known as "The Four Towers of Power" in its WQOK heydays. As teenagers, we always thought our beloved WQOK was the strongest station around because it had 4 towers. Little did we know then that they only used 1 tower during daytime hours. I have always admired this directional array. Being a Greenville area native, I have rode by this site hundreds of times over the years and to this day I still have to slow down and give it a look. This site has always been kept in top shape and the grass is always mowed. You can get a very up close and personal view of it from the Ingles parking lot next door.

That is a good point. I think they will keep the FM though, at least for now, they even built that site. Like I've said I think it has potential, just not with the current format. Buzzard was competing with 2 stations playing similar music and they almost got a 2 share most of the time. There apparently isn't much of an audience for Shine here and something else needs to be tried.

More Kilowatts, yeah, the whole lawn and all makes it. Would love to go in the studio building and have a look around. I would assume everything from the 'glory days' is gone, though.
