WHAM stones the President

Why is anyone surprised by this? I don't actually think it had to do with the fact Obama is a Democrat. It has to do with the fact WHAM radio has canceled news for profits. It started long before Bill Lowe was axed (news is non-essential and Lowe becomes fodder for the cheapening of the airwaves in today's big $$$ corporate radio world) when WHAM threw Fox News Radio on. After all, for cheapo cash payments for a cheapo low end news product, why do anything more? They could have had USA Radio for even less, but Fox News is a happy companion for the conservative talk radio audience they court.

Heck, in a few years, voice synthesizers will be good enough; they could just have a machine read the news.

Is it shameful? Of course. Do I care? Not really. I have long abandoned local Rochester radio for XM and get my local news the same place the commercial radio stations do - by reading the newspaper they routinely steal from. Corporate radio begets the rush to the bottom they cultivate with low end crud flung on the dial in between commercials.

Will the last listener turn out the lights and turn off the transmitter?

Don't rule that out. Google that website that allows you to type in words into a box and then your choice of male/female voices repeat what you just wrote. It's not quite perfected yet, but when it is, I'm sure you'll have auto voicetracking and auto voice news.

WHAM is definitely a shadow of it's former self. So is much of the industry for that matter.

Having said all that, radio is a fun business to be in and a fun medium to listen to. Call me crazy I don't care!
