WHAM-TV sold to Newport

A friend of mine who works at WHAM-TV, Channel 13, told me the employees were told yesterday (Friday, March 14) that the sale of the ClearChannel TV division to Newport Television was finalized.

This is confirmed at http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/CA6540881.html

It is not yet known how this will affect their sharing of news/weather with WHAM radio.

I don't know anything official-- but I would suspect that the News Departments of WHAM TV and Radio will continue their partnership. It’s a no brainer—13 gets promotion on the radio, and vice-versa, Radio on TV. That at I’m told that both staffs get along well with each other. Even though they’ll be owned by separate companies, I think the partnership will continue.

So...one's the bread. The other's the butter?

Sounds like a possible joint venture to me, but I could be wrong...

I think it's a pretty safe bet that you're wrong. Cross promotional deal - maybe. JV - no way.

Will this mean that WHAM-TV and WSYR-TV in Syracuse will revert to their old call-letters?

I believe the WOKR calls are now controlled by EMF.
