WHAS IBOC IS OFF!

I think I was being too hasty in replying when I said "Yes, I did" in reply #14. At that time I heard a little bit of WYLL along with WOBM in Lakewood Township, NJ, WVNJ in Oakland, NJ (northern NJ) and WODY in Martinsville, VA (near the NC border), and and maybe a couple of other stations that is taking a long time to identify. Hope this clears things up.

When you have the time to check, I'd be curious to know if you still hear WYLL at all out east when they use their night pattern. As I mention they now shoot straight north instead of southeast.

I visited the folks in Lexington Memorial Day and brought along my Sony HD radio (purchased on closeout for $40) to see what I could receive. I was interested in WHAS giving the concept the benefit of the doubt. My parents live in the Southwest part of Lexington about 65 miles from the WHAS transmitter site. I had full signal strength and a flashing HD light and a couple of very brief moments of HD audio. My dad commented HD radio was like AM stereo. I commented, "No, at this distance you could hear WHAS in AM stereo."

I'm off to Louisville tomorrow and will have to see if fidelity has returned to WHAS on my wideband AM Stereo Delco car radio. During Ibuz it was hard to tell the difference between the phone calls and the host.
Based on my listening to 830 & 850, I don't think they've opened the bandwidth back up. 830 & 850 have no WHAS splatter, hinting that the audio still maxes out at 5khz.

You're right, WHAS still is narrow bandwidth. For what it is worth, 1350 WLOU is still sending out a pilot thought I believe the programming is still mono. The Delco radio opens up the bandwidth further when stereo is activated so WLOU sounded sweet playing black gospel.

Passing through Louisville today, I noted that AM 790 now has IBOC & WHAS still doesn't. As they are both Clear Channel stations, one would have to wonder if they moved the IBOC junk from 840 to 790? If so, bravo...790 can't do near the damage that 840 can/did.

I wish wls would turn off their buzz saw. cant hear wcbs in hillsville virginia from the buzz on 89 chi town and 87 new orleans. In Indiana its even worse on the wls part...

a little birdie at iBiquity told me that aside from the receptionist and the night janitor, they have pretty much locked the doors and sent the rest of the staff home.

As of just a few days ago WLS is still AM Stereo at night. Citadel stations do not buzz at night but do during the day.

Around 11:30 PM I tuned to 840 on the Sony HD tuner, turned the loop to receive toward west, I hear WHAS pretty clearly but the HD didn't blink on the dial, so if WHAS turned the buzzmitter back off, they're doing the right thing by leaving it off.

Not on at 10AM Sunday May 2.

Maybe I'll be able to hear WCCO and the frano-Canadian on 860 again?
That would be nice.
WHAS w/iboc sure 'nuff took out 4 useful signals here in Chicago, and made itself sound awful.

Did WLW turn theirs off? Since my move to TN I haven't noticed it, and I had WOR clear as a bell the other night.

Maybe at night, but certainly not during the day. Just checked and the hash is still there. I will see how it sounds tonight, but unfortunately for me I live a little east of Columbus and WLW is noticeably weaker/subject to more nighttime interference out here than in town.
Sorry to hear you left the state, but keep posting!

It wasn't anything personal LOL! For a long time I was practically in WLW's back yard. It's odd being out of its daytime range.

WLW's IBOC is off at 10:37PM...710 is in the clear for the first time in a very long while.

Where are you in TN gr8?

Just turned on WLW here outside Columbus and it still sounds like hash on 690, but maybe there's interference around me I don't realize. Curious to see what I hear in the morning.

Sevierville, just SE of Knoxville and attached to Pigeon Forge.
You made quite an upgrade in the scenery department...have hiked in the Smoky's several times. At 8:45AM, WLW's IBOC is on, WHAS' is not. WLW made the Cincinnati news because people were unhappy about the IBOC delay when they took their portable radios to the Red's games...maybe they are shutting it off during Reds games & forgetting to turn it back on promptly?
