WHAS TURNS ON THE IBUZZ AGAIN !

I was scanning through the AM band around 1 PM on Saturday and found WHAS I-noise wiping out everything from 818 kHz to 852 kHz. I am over 50 miles away from them, too. I have a fairly good receiver which is normally quite selective & sensitive (ICOM IC-746). Normally, I can hear (weakly) the 850 from Cleveland during the day... But NOT Now. Looks like they are going to try to make their noisemaker work again...

Bummers........

It was gone again today (Sunday) when I checked it at 1PM.

Maybe there is a NOISE ORDINANCE in Louisville on Sundays ??????

WHAS has had a tough time getting IBOC running for any long period of time. As of last night it was gone. I wish WLW had this problem.

The irony is they could fire up AM Stereo and more vehicles with factory car radios would see the stereo light verses the very few that own HD radios.

I guess I am too young to remember AM Stereo... Any stations broadcast it now?

WZZB 1390 Seymour,IN 50 miles north of Louisville does & they still play a lot of music. Sounds really good on AM stereo car radios.

I agree. AM stereo sounded GREAT.

WSM in Nashville used to transmit in AM Stereo and it was tremendous. I've only owned one AM stereo receiver...A small Sony Walkman. I took it on my travels around the country and found many stations transmitting in stereo about 10-20 years ago. One in particular that sounded exceptionally good was KFRC in San Francisco which played oldies at the time. Another was CJBQ in Belleville, Ontario playing country music. For that one, I had a rental car in Rochester NY that had an AM stereo receiver and I simply could NOT believe my ears how great it sounded.

Kids can hear 15 + khz stuff, but once you get into middle age & beyond, the stuff above 10khz starts to go, making AM Stereo sound pretty darn close to FM stereo. Shame it didn't kick in concurrently with FM stereo...could have dramatically slowed the move away from music based AM stations.

KCJJ 1630 comes in here loud and clear most evenings. Well worth a listen.

From what I understand, the antenna bandwidth is what was causing them the most problems with it. I'm listening to them now on an HD radio and the little blue light isn't on. So perhaps they have given up on it for the time being.

My bet is that they never meant to turn the IBOC on in the first place. It came on either by an accident or a malfunction in the controls.
