what 1250 sounds like

I haven't listened to 1250 since they made the switch. Nor will I. I do know that their signal has been weak for as long as I can remember. I guess SOME things never change.

AM 540 always seemed to have a better signal than AM 1250. I don't think that has changed even though the programming on the two stations has. By the way, I think the Mexican programming sometimes sounds better on WWCS than Radio Disney ever did on either WWCS or what used to be WEAE. But that's a matter of taste. I'm not into Mickey Mouse radio.

1250 continues to run with the digital IBOC signal, compressing down the audio on the analog side
(you know....the one that 98% of your audience actually listens to) back to 1970's telephone quality.
540 did not use IBOC and hence their analog signal for music was infinitely better.

Lovely. Fellow R-D O&O WWMK/1260 here in Cleveland operates the same way.

But because their signal has always been ultra-directional - literally failing to adequately cover ANY of the major suburban areas outside of Cleveland - it makes a bad situation much worse. Not that it likely matters for the 3-5 teeny-boppers that care to tune into 1260 (and I betcha ZERO of them have an HD Radio with the AM band).

My son listens to Radio Disney in the car all the time. For what it is, it's actually pretty well done.

However, we get it from XM. On the occasions when we're not in the car with satellite, if we tune it in on AM he immediately asks why it sounds so weird. And he's 8.

Twice in the past week I have tuned past 1250 only to find a dead open carrier.
Seemed to be that way for quite awhile.

Seems logical. Unlike the previous format, Radio Disney essentially is one long Disney infomercial broken up by occasional commercials or promos if indeed anyone is selling them. I get the impression there was more effort in that department when one still had ESPN 1250 and AM 540 doing Disney. Ergo, one wonders if anyone is watching the boards or if it's all an automated show. (Yes, it was such a show when it was on WWCS, too, but at least the engineers could keep an ear on a live show on 1250 while waiting for the breaks in the Mickey Mouse Club on 540.)

No HD at night is the correct answer. I'm not sure why they continue to run HD in the daytime. Doubtful
that any Radio Disney types or their kids are listening in HD. As far as I'm concerned all it does is degrade
the analog signal.

The first person to find an eight-year-old kid that OWNS an HD Radio wins $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000. Of course, since it's Disney, they can afford to waste ghastly amounts of money on a failed system like HD Radio.

The first genuine actual person between the ages of eight and eighty - any sentient, upright walking human being - who can demonstrate that he/she actually owns and regularly listens to an HD-AM receiver wins a free cookout in Clarke Ingram's back yard. Beer to be provided by Cary Pall.

thusfar my web searching for the Fisher-Price HD Radio has come to naught...

I confess: I own an HD radio, but I've never even taken it out of the box. I did, however, find a good use for
my AM stereo receivers, which I use to record our two AM stations ... in mono, of course.
