What a Week!

What a week for Seattle radio:

1. London bombings takes place. KIRO and KOMO radio both have
reporters on the scene and coverage was a horse race and listeners
benefitted. Doesn't take a psychic like myself to predict what
this will do for July numbers on KIRO, KOMO, KTTH and KVI. AM radio
responds well to crisis.

2. Lots of talk about KJR-FM's rebirth since the arrival of Jay Kelly.
Here is the true story, pure and simple. Jay had a philosophical disagreement
with the new group PD at Entercom...and mutually decided to end the relationship. Clear Channel was more than happy to snap him up and look at the
ratings result! The staff loves him at CC and the staff at KBSG loved him.
I thought posters were going to quit the personal attacks in 2005?

3.Bidding wars in full throttle for two major morning shows in Seattle.
The Rivers/KZOK deal is in a stalemate. Rivers is talking with Clear Channel,
Entercom and Infinity. Could wind up on KJR-FM, KISW or KZOK. He already
makes 2.0 million and wants 3.0.

4. Bidding war in full throttle for the KBSG morning show, with the highest
ratings on the format in years. KJR-FM, KLSY and KBSG are in the running.

5. A bidding war on for John Tesh?? Early trends show HUGE growth for KPLZ at night. Word is the new CC Country wants him, so does KLSY and KCMS.

6. A second Country is coming into Seattle...that's all I can say.
Is it a movein, or a flip. Only I know because: IKNOWITALL!

Love Seattle radio!!!

PEACE OUT

Wow, the news/talk stations reported the news. And you're surprised?

I haven't seen a huge ratings result for KJR-FM, nothing that cannot be discounted due to margin of error.

Rivers won't get 3.0 mil. I'd actually be surprised if the next contract he signs pays as well as the current one does.

I could see them moving to KJR and that would be the coop of the century. KLSY? never going to happen.

Seattle ALREADY has a second country, 102.9 KNBQ...a movein from down south...what rock have you been sleeping under?

What fun. I love waking up Saturday morning and scanning
through the trades and boards and never cease to get a good
laugh out of iknowitall. You have mastered the ability to
to take credit for the obvious:

1. A big news story, news stations covered it and people
will listen.

2. A PD with a solid local track record goes across the street
and is able to help another station grow.

3. The PD at KJR might want his old morning show at KBSG. Imagine
that.

4. Bob Rivers is in a contract dispute, so where might he go?
Let see. KJR-FM doesn't have a morning show and KISW won't when
Stern leaves. Hmmm. Would they be likely candidates?

5. John Tesh's numbers across the country are advertised in
every trade magazine. He is the real deal in AC, Country, Hot-AC,
Jazz and Christian along with Delilah. KPLZ puts him on, instead
of automation and they go up. Hmmmm.

6. A new country coming to town. You can't lose on this one.
KNBQ is getting a signal upgrade and KLSY is rumored to be flipping
any day now. Either way you win.

Are you psychic, a genius? Just a master of the obvious. I still
give you big credit though for the nine station prediction in May on
the effect of JACK. That was impressive. The above: Obvious.

PEACE to you to...

What is this GETTING a signal upgrade? Guys, the upgrade happened MONTHS ago

Then I don't think it's going to be a player in Seattle. I have to give CC more credit. I'm sure it's moving closer into the market or will have to have another substantial upgrade. Otherwise it's a marginal "rimshot" (if you count 1.5 hours south to qualify as a rimshot).

Obvious

...Let's all SPOT the obvious and find something WRONG with it....

No mystery. They are getting a series of boosters
to hit the north end and Eastside. So will KAYO.
The KNBQ signal will also move again, to a higher
tower. Engineers will have to explain the booster
system, it is out of my element. I believe even
the PI published this or one of the trades. It
certainly wasn't a secret dredged up by iknowitall.

i do also know from one of my inside sources from inside KELA/KNBQ that KNBQ will move their business office/studio to tacoma to make room for the return of KMNT @ 104.3 here in town. i didn't get informed on what the format is gonna be yet, but it is coming.

Idunno though, its the first signal i get cresting the pass, and some places downtown I get KNBQ better than KMPS...but you're right, it is there to steal $$ not post big seattle numbers.

I have heard, but I cannot confirm that it will be another country, a local country for the twins...That really doesn't make any sense to me though, KNBQ serves it just fine.

In response to the booster question, I think the way a booster works is a station can apply to feed a lower power "booster" transmitter in an area of week signal coveraage. This transmitter works on the same freq. as the main. HOWEVER the 60dbu signal of the booster must be entierly contained within the 60dbu signal of the main. I have seen boosters up to 17kw, and as low as the low 100w

KNBQ studios and offices are already been moved to ClearChannel Seattle building. They are now part of the Clear Channel Seattle. Look at their website, and look at the contact section, it has their address on Elliott Ave.

Yeah, it might serve as a decent flanker, but as far downtown, you must have a far better radio than I do.

I read on some other board that Andy Savage might be trying to swing a deal to land at KZOK could there be any truth to that since it appears that talks with Bob Rivers have stalled. I would find it kind of ironic if Rivers landed back at KISW after all that was said when he departed there a few years ago, but then again if indeed it is purely a $$$$ issue I am sure they would love to get him back in the fold.

Rivers to KJR-FM or KISW??

>>> Rivers is talking w/Clear Channel and Entercom and could wind up on KJR-FM or KISW
...already makes 2 million and wants a million more...

HA! - NO WAY JOSE that Rivers will wind up on KJR-FM....
NOR will he go BACK to Entercom after what was pulled on him last time...

Bet the rent money he'll stay at 102.5...and GETS what he wants...

There is a slight possibility that I have played with antennae and receivers just a lil bit. Probably does have something to do with it lol

Boosters, straight from the source

The FCC website has good information when you know where to find it:

Yes, this page also covers translators... either scroll down the page or click on the table of contents link for the booster information.<P ID="signature">______________
