What about people meters???

On the ratings thread, there was a comment about how unreliable the Arbitron diaries are. Ok, then, what about the Personal People Meters? Do you think they would A) work in this market and B) be any more reliable than what's out there now?

I think it's a great idea!

I don't see why they wouldn't

Absolutely! Anytime you have to rely on someone filling out paper work, you're going to end up getting guesses or it doesn't get filled out at all! Ask your engineer about the tech log in the control room! You don't like it (paper work), neither do the listeners! Sales people don't like filling out time orders or POs.... If all you have to do carry around a little box and collect your dollar, it sure makes it a lot easier (in my opinion) than finding your pen and marking the diary while driving, talking on the phone and smoking a cigarette! Again, that's just MY opinion!

PPM's won't be perfect, but they'd still be a huge improvement over the diary method. The PPM's are placed with the listeners for a longer period of time, so the numbers should be a bit more consistent too. It will be even more important for Arbitron to get sample right, however.

Still, I hear we're at least 3 years away and stations will be asked to pay nearly double for the PPM survey than they currently pay for diaries.

Of course we could just stop subscriptions to Arbitron nation wide and let the agency deal with them! ;) Yeah I know! I know! ;D
