What about WBOS?

With all of the discussion on WBCN's future, the question remains is whether WBOS and Greater Media will take advantage of this format change and really go all out to create a really good rock station on 92.9. Maybe someone there can study how WBCN and even WCOZ were in the old days and create something with good music and good personalities?

BCN's future? Geez Louise, you're even more inane than I'm accused of being! BCN's future is exactly 4 weeks!

That would go against what made WBOS more popular than WBCN - the whole Ipod/Less Blah Blah approach. Unless you can convince their management that good personalities can somehow add to their bottom line creative programming will not be included in the budget.

Yeah but of the 3 rock stations left, WBOS is the closest to alternative.
Most importantly, the WBOS signal is best.

I work in Quincy, we cannot get WFNX on our radios. The WAAF signal on both signals is lackluster. What we do get is clear is WBOS.

You think we're going to bother with a complicated internet stream to get FNX if they're playing the same Red Hot Chili Peppers songs over and over? No, we'll be listening to WBOS on the radio.

What about em?

They're in a good spot right now, hopefully they keep things the same. Been hearing some good stuff on 92.9 lately ;)

The only bone I'd have to pick with WBOS right now, is that their "less blah blah blah" slogan is SO corny!

I'm 34 years old. I'm not into WBOS current music. But I do listen sometimes. I have to admit, they do have some (ok) music on there. I like the (soft) alternative rock on there. I don't like the heavy/loud music.
What I like about WBOS is when they say they will return to music ine one minute, the PROMISE one minute.
That's what I like about them. The computer generated voice that announce the songs says it crystal clear and is very easy to understand. That's a good look. I'm not into this music, but when I do listen, I am very impressed, they are well organized. I recomend this station for those who listened to WBCN, because both you and your parents can listen. An 16 year old can listen with a 40 year old because (when I listen) most of the music isn't all that heavy. It's ok if us adults if we want to be COOL

Yeah, WBOS has actually evolved since its format change. They are much more mainstream Alternative now. I do not see any reason why they would want to tinker with it at all.

Shouldn't 'BOS be readying a format tweak, no matter how they are doing in the ratings? They are just about due for some new imaging, a new logo, and a new PD.

But they're going to "live on" online, didn't you hear?

Not that there's any kind of huge audience to pick up from WBCN's demise, but a few more ears won't hurt them. Greater Media will probably spend a couple bucks on soon to be unemployed 'BCN airstaffers to record a bunch of cheezy stagers and then do the Rock of Boston renunion weekend like they did when they brought WROR to life. Of course, they can't use WBCN name directly but there are many ways to avoid mentioning the call letters. WB..

WBCN was in 16th place in the 6+ ratings, and yes I know 6+ means crap its 18+ that counts, and WBOS was way ahead of them in the ratings, so what is there for BOS to risk tweaking their format to get listeners from a much lower rated station.

One of the sites I read, I want to say BRW, made a good point last week. WBOS is kicking a bunch of stations azzes for the cost of a hard drive. Do I want to see any of my fellow broadcasters unemployed.. hell no, do I hope Adam Chapman, Handy, and the rest of the staff find jobs... you bet, but I don't think for a minute Peter Smyth is going to play with BOS, that has great ratings and bills well, in order to get the minuscule number of WBCN listeners who are not going to migrate to 92.9 on their own.

WBOS is staying where and what it is, the question is what can they do with 96.9 that isn't going to screw up 92.9, 102.5, 106.7 and 105.7? A sports flip is out of the question at this point, and the talk thing isn't working well enough to stick with it if you look at it as a stand alone operation, but they have every money making format covered on those other signals so what do they do, and remember doing nothing is always an option. Short of flipping to spanish there is nothing for them to do.

Greater Media could do better with 96-9. They could start with having more live talent on the weekends and have shows that are just a tad bit more interesting.
