What about??????

970am... WRKN in Brandon.... Saw the post about it being back on the air.
What else do we know about this station now?

Quitman... the AM is still listed on eBay at much lower price. K-love doesn't list the FM on their website so what is going on?
Another board shows a translator FM for Swaggart? in Quitman? And the station licensed to Stonewall?
What does W. Alabama radio do to put a signal in this area.
Does anyone do anything to serve this county and area or not?

Well... for one thing, it isn't WRKN anymore. New call letters are WZQK. They are simulcasting 850 WQST out of Forest, MS and only breaking away for Pearl High School football. I understand they will have a local morning show eventually.

I'll be very suprised if they find a buyer for WQMS-AM. It's a horrible signal in a depressed market. I really hate to see any radio station go dark, but this one needs to turn the license in.

Not sure why K-Love hasn't listed the FM yet. The transfer of ownership was finalized some time ago. Maybe the webmaster hasn't gotten around to adding it.

Don't know about the Swaggert stations, but it wouldn't suprise me. He's bought a few in Mississippi recently, so I can see him expanding his network of stations.

Clarke county is pretty well served by several of the Meridian stations. The ecomony in the Quitman area isn't the best... makes it tough for a local station to survive. I'm not saying it's impossible... just tough.

I noticed that they fixed the tower lights but the station is empty, everything must be coming from Forrest. I did hear a local guy on 970 seperately playing records while waiting for the football game to start. By the way, why didn't they carry Brandon football, it seems only logical. The signal is OK in Pearl but Pearl football should be on WJNT. Do you know anything about 970's nightime signal? The FCC website says its flea powered at night, but it seems to be getting out surprisingly good at my location. WRKN seldom ever stayed on after 7:00 toward the end and the signal had gotten pretty bad the last couple of years. It was inaudible at my house. New WZQK is now booming day and night. As a matter of fact, its sounding better than its sounded in years. Better audio too. Glad they fixed it.

Hmm, maybe WQST could simulcast on it. Naw, I doubt it.

Is WQST 850 on the air at night or is it on just for football games? The FCC website hasn't been updated and still list them 10,000 watts day, and it hasn't been that strong in many years.

WQST is supposed to be operating at 500 watts non-directional daytime only according to the last construction permit that the FCC issued. They had to do something since they were losing the lease on property that 3 of the 4 towers for the 10kw directional array were located on. The construction permit was approved and 3 of the 4 towers were dropped, but I've never seen the actual license issued for 500 watt ND operation listed on the FCC website. It is possible that it was approved and hasn't been listed.

I listened to it Friday night down 49 South past Piney Woods. Apparently they've worked on the transmitter and the directional array because it does sound much better than it used to.

Not sure why they are carrying Pearl instead of Brandon. Maybe Brandon already had a deal with another station. Didn't WTWZ carry Brandon on Saturday mornings last year?

As for WJNT carrying Pearl... they did carry it for several years, but dropped it because of little or no advertiser support. Having to pay the school for broadcasting rights didn't help either. Apparently WJNT has a better deal with Northwest Rankin.
