Anybody remember WGBB Car Boxes? If you displayed one in your car window and one of the spotters saw you, you won a prize! In the 60s and 70s, WGBB played MOR music by day, top 40/oldies at night. For many of us, 1240 was the third choice after WMCA-570 and WABC-770.

As for 1520, it was a country station back in the day, but when it signed off at sundown, the Mighty KB from Buffalo came booming in!

Happy memories from a bygone era! :)

MarcB is right... if you go to www.radio-locator.com put in WNYG go down to where it says New city Medford.. click there and it takes you to the WLIM site where i guess is where the WNYG towers should go....Yeah right!

A broker has a suburban AM for sale for 1.9 million. I wonder if it's not WNYH or WLIE (no info, just speculating).

???

WNYG 1440 was back on the air Sunday May 22 all day From 8am till 7Pm.
to meet certain FCC requirements. We finally got the modification I needed on its C.P.
Now I can Start to Move it to Medford.
In a week or so I will start To Build the New Studio Facilities In Medford

Re: Enough already

So a dead station that was a waste of broadcast spectrum for years is being resurrected into another waste of broadcast spectrum. Isin't there some sort of moral law against disturbing the dead ???

WFTU/1570, licensed to Five Towns College, is not off the air (even if they have transmitter issues at times). I know because I attend school there and I host a program on WFTU (Fridays from 2 to 4 PM, btw, if you're interested).

A waste of broadcast spectrum? Hardly. For 18 months or 2 years they were a CHR station called Student Radio 1440 teaching kids how to work in radio. After that they were leased out and became a station playing Contemporary Christian Music as 1440 The Spirit of New York. That lasted until late 2009/early 2010. Then they began simulcasting Radio Cantinco Nuevo before they went off the air last July.

You're also 40 miles west. Take a ride to Riverhead and tell me if it's on.... it hasn't been for months (at least). I know someone who lives not 2 miles from the station and it's not on.

I would go out to Riverhead myself, but gas still ins't a bargain right now. I'll bring this up with the GM and CE when I see them next. At least the web feed is on (http://www.wfturadio.com).
