What antenna does better for FM?

What does the best, for outdoors DXn'... Regular FM antenna or TV/FM antenna? I would like to have a good strong antenna for dx'n. I got the radioshack 12 element, but I would like to have something a little stronger.

I prefere a straight fm only outdoor antenna. I have to use mine instide because of the condeo restictions of putting things on the roof but it works grat and I got it from radio shack.

I have a Terk FM-Pro that I bought in 2001. It works pretty good, I have it connected to a Grundig S350.

I'll half to look into those antennas, to bad radioshack doesnt sell them 12 element antennas any more, seems like they are fading away from the "radio" in radioshack.

ALWAYS use an FM specific antenna if you want to DX. A combo "VHF-FM-UHF" unit, at BEST, only has one element tuned for Channel 6 or 7, so you get an OK bottom end or high end of the dial reception. An FM Specific atnenna is fully tuned for 88-108 Mc. Whay pick up and amplify harmonics that will actually interfere with reception.

I use a Finco that's at least 30 years old. I bought it at auction for $.25 cents! It has come with me through 5 homes and two states! It's massive, super directional, super sensitive. I clean it yearly.

Now, if you're TRULY serious, for the tuner, go to EBAY, invest in a Marantz 10B. From the southern Jersey Shore, I can regulary get 101.1 from NYC, Philadelphia and/or Virginia Beach!

I Have the Discontinued Radio Shack outdoor FM only, that went for around $25. I was going to replace it, since I now have a TV i use for OTA DT viewing, but adding a signal amp to it fixed the problems I was having with the TV. I've pulled my pest catches with this antenna, Including KLLI 105.3 Dallas TX, and KQMT 99.5 Denver Co (through Es). It also pulls in many of the Nashville (80 miles), Birmingham (103 miles), and Chattanooga (80 miles) stations like they were local. Too bad they discontinued it though, only outdoor they have that has the same reported reception is the $100 160" beast
