What are the Chances of Braves Radio moving back to Cox Radio in the future?

Anyone care to share their opinions about the changes Clear Channel has implemented when it came down to flipping Lite FM 94.9 WLTM and 96 Rock 96.1 WKLS

If the Braves do decide to take their services else where the only major player in town besides Clear Channel is Cox Radio. I don't Cumulus being an option at all so that idea of them acquiring the Braves radio rights is out all together due to the fact that 99X and Project 961 are embedded in a battle for listeners like wise with Q100 and Lincoln Financial Groups Star 94. I don't think that changes are good that will be the direction the Braves will go is back to Cox. Let me know what you think.

Anything is possible, but my understanding is that there is still some time left on the current contract.

There are other players besides Cox and CC, but it may take some creative negotiations to see them roll onto another station outside of CC in the future.

I have, of course, been wrong before....

There have been rumors that WSB has now stopped looking at UGA football as a lifetime thing and that it could go away on the next contract. I've always assumed UGA football was the #1 moneymaker of all the Atlanta sports properties. So if its true that Cox doesnt want the Dogs, I cant see how they'd want all the inventory and programming trauma that goes with the Braves.

That said, once the River finally settles at its long-awaited 1.8 share, maybe thats where the Braves could go for Cox.

I noticed the Bull started promos this week on being the new home of the Braves. "You're in Braves Country" one spot says. I noticed, however, that some of the spots have audio clips of the Braves announcers, including Chip, Don, and Joe, when in reality, the only announcers doing radio this year will be Skip and Pete. Nice attention to detail.
I think the Braves should do well on the Bull.

Why would Cox or anyone want a team that takes up so much time on the air with so many games? The Braves were losers last year. They are still in the "re-building" mode. No one in their right mind should pay the rights fees that Cheap Channel did. My money says that the Falcons will eventually be on WSB. Arthur Blank is on the Board of Directors with Cox. Sounds like a good marriage to me. As far as UGA Football, I hear the WSB relationship with them is as solid as ever. Think about it, Falcons Football and Dogs football. Not a ton of games, but a ton of money to be made.

Do you just stay up nights looking for things to nitpick? What possible difference could running clips of last year's play by play make? I'm sure you'll suggest some way to use audio of games that haven't happened yet? In case you haven't noticed, Braves promos from time to time also include clips of the first time the Braves went to the World Series, Aaron's historic homeruns, etc... many featuring announcers who haven't been with the team for quite some time. You people are always so quick to criticize, and never offer anything useful or creative as an alternative.

That's a great point about the Bulldogs. Remember the major draw to UGA football is Munson. He drives the interest and the numbers. He's not long for this gig. Once he goes the bottom will drop out. It only makes sense that WSB is not looking to be the flagship for very much longer. though I will say that Munson will die before he retires. This is all he has left. His doctor won't let him hunt or fish anymore. I am not usually up early in the mornings but that's the story the last time I was up at 4:50 AM to hear his commentary.

BTW: WSB could make quite a killing if they have saved all his commentary from all these years and put it on CD box sets by year, or even DVD-ROM' for multiple years. Man how I wish I was in charge of the WSB archive with all of those golden Munson nuggets to listen to. Munson and Bulldogs football go hand in hand, but I have never heard a highlight reel done that included anything from doing UGA Basketball or Falcons football and there were classic Munson moments during those eras too. Like remember the long bomb the Falcons used to beat the 49ers in '90 that you see on NFL Films every once in a while on ESPN Classic?

WSB doesn't want the Bulldogs? What color is the sky in your world?

UGA and Cox just signed a 5 year deal for the Dogs. WSB wouldn't give up UGA football even if it would mean a Nobel prize for the Cox sisters.

As for the Braves, they're not leaving CC. Even if the Braves are tired of the lack of signal, they're getting more money than any other station would ever give them.

So, whoever thinks Cox will drop UGA football, please seek help. If you don't get help from Charter, get help somewhere.

Knowsnews knows what he is talking about. Aside from a possible SEC deal with XM, the Bulldogs aren't going anywhere but SB. The Dogs and SB have been partners for 58 consecutive years. Prior to that, the Dogs were on SB sporadically going as far back as 1928, when Bill Munday did pbp on NBC.
No Munson? Certainly, in due time that will come to pass but it doesn't mean SB will dump the Dogs.

Munson is not the reason for the ratings!
That's like saying no one would care about Ga after Vince Dooley...or Tech after Bobby Dodd!
You should see the agony of a station owner after losing Georgia football.(I have) The tears....the anguish....oh, the humanity!
The ONLY reason WSB would lose Bulldogs is if economics turn negative. I don't see that in the near-future.

I concur with the learned poster "Knowsnews2." AOL/TimeWarner, the current owner of the Braves, will go with the station who will give them the most money for their 4th place Atlanta Braves. Keep in mind, CC still has three years left, there may be a team option for another few years. Few people listen to the Braves on radio. In fact, few people listen to baseball on the radio at all.

Of course if AOL/TimeWarned manages to sell the team to a real owner, maybe a return to Cox will happen, my Magic Eight Ball says "Not likely."
