What are you looking for in the songs representing Christ?

The post about "not getting" some songs really got me thinking about this. What are you looking for when it comes to songs about Christ and songs that represent Christianity?

Again, I'll share what Joe English shared with me when I interviewed him back in the 80s. He said he wanted the listener to KNOW that Joe was singing about Jesus, not the dog, or his car, or his girlfriend, etc.

I also think it's extremely important for the on-air people to say Jesus' name themselves, not to just "let the music do the talking".

Ah...while I definitely want to limit answers to the topic question, I think I can parse it down a bit. While I don't see it much, I find no problem with artists labeled "Christian" doing songs about the general topics of life. In fact, it should happen much more often than it seems to.

My question arises from the discussion of the song "Awesome God". Setting personal taste aside, what should a worship song/song about Christ sound like?

I feel like I'm being a pain, but I assure you I'm not....

So is it just that one question or is it the three above? I believe we'll all have different answers for each....
