What Atlanta radio needs is....

What format is missing in Atlanta radio?

I say there is a large formatic void for a Dance CHR that could potentially be very profitable and successful. Think about it. Q100 plays a broad spectrum of music, running the gamut from Rock to Pop. 95.5 The Beat plays Rap and Hip-Hop with the very occasional Dance hit thrown in. And, Star 94 doesn't count as a radio station.

Take 97.1 (or any one of the lesser performing FM's) and convert it to "Party 97.1" Play "Groove Is In The Heart" by Dee-lite, "I'll Be Lovin You" by Collage, "It Feels So Good" by Sonique, and "My Humps" by Black Eyed Peas.

Party 97.1 would dominate nightclub advertising, and bring in significant revenue from nightclub remotes. The station would OWN 18-34 females, and would erode market share from 95.5 The Beat and Q100.

What's wrong with Star 94? I don't like the station (I don't care for much current music) but I don't go putting it down. Please give some reasoning for why you feel this way.

Sounds like it makes sense. I don't like the music but sounds like it would make lots of money. Good idea.

I guess he wouldn't take the revenue Star generates
as "it doesn't count as profit".

Then why is Star still in the Top 10? Good lordy!

Moreso from Q100, but you can also take some numbers from B98.5, considering they've been playing a few tunes on the dancey side. I agree, I wish Citadel was around to bring that Diva format to Atlanta.

That's got to be the most asinine thing I have ever read on this board. As much as I would love a 24/7 Dance station here in Atlanta, it's nitch marketing and it would only appeal to a small percentage of the market share (if that). When stations are having a hard time filling their inventory, there's always a fallback... cars & bars. But it's hard to live on cars & bars alone. I would hate to attempt it, especially when you are broadcasting to the few thousand people who frequent the nightclubs out of the over 4 million people that live in the Atlanta area.

Sure the dance format may work in NYC and Miami, I just don't think there is enough of an audience here to support it.

ok...there's 20 minutes. what about the rest of the week?
gosh radio must be easy!

dominate nightclub advertising? and let's not forget that
huge remote money! this IS a joke, right?
target 0.005% of the market with a format, and pay for it
with nightclub (and remote) revenue?

you're funny!

Atlanta radio just plain bites. I wish we even had a station like this

http://www.freedom1047.com/ListenLive/

It is out of Savannah.

> > >> Atlanta radio needs a difference, Something that either is done well, and a format that really makes sense. B98.5 is a complete and total joke. They used to do a great job in the early part of thier format with the 70s on sat, and the 80s on sunday. But what about anything that would sound great, and bring in the bucks... Star 94 is top 40 that has a flavor of adulthood, Meaning
it does not sound like its going after the 25 yr olds. The beat is really hitting the younger set, and they I think sound much better in that genre than does star.. But what about a totally different station , a Jack, anything.. Please lets have some real radio for a change, and get rid of those horrid voice tracking stations that clear channel and cox already have on the air.
