What can be done to save smooth jazz?

Just heard KKSJ 106.3 in Louisiana gave way to hot AC - the Monkey. I have to wonder why there are so many flips from this format in such a short time. It's been around a long time now. It's not like these are 80s stations or rhythmic oldies which were popular at once but died out suddenly. Is it the music or just not selling well? I ask because of all these flips are alarmingly indicative the format will continue to die out. What can be done? I wish I could do something to make it come alive again or at least help out.

I noticed a lot of stations are putting smooth jazz on HD2 and HD3. That's gotta be a sign it's not a total failure right?

If they are going to start putting them on the HD channels (and this really can be said about any format they put up there) they need to not make it sound more like smooth jazz and not Clear Channel-BA water down version, but have a playlist as deep as Watercolors to make them competitive against satellite radio. It's not like they have anything to lose at the moment, since most of the stations are commercial free.

Like that's gonna happen. HD radio is pretty much a joke, especially among new-media pros who blog, who is going to spend money on one when there are so many more relevant tech-toys around. You're going to the exactly the amount of originality and innovation you would expect from their corporate owners.
