WHAT COULD WORK ON 106.1?

I don’t know what has been going on lately with 106.1 but it sounds horrible. Much more static than before and also picking up La Mejor 104.5 in some spots, completely eating up the Radio Vision Latina programming. And of course still picking up KTTX and KIOC
Put KIOC on it. That will fix it.

All these are great options but not on a 106.1 Signal .. It just wont cover key highly latino areas. Someone had mentioned Tejano and i think that could work cause it could be a bilingual format.
Tejano is predominantly a 50+ format today. No agency business, and a tough local sale.

You are correct. You can forget about national agencies buying from you. But to be fair that's already the case for many of the local translators who are selling the idea of radio and not numbers. A good rebrand of the format like I discussed earlier and an excellent sales team can take you far in this town. This has been proven by Power 99.5 née 105.3 surviving all these years with an odd format that doesn't make any sense in Houston.

Personally if I were to take a shot at Tejano, I'd look towards duplicating what KJBZ-FM in Laredo, TX is doing. It does the format right by carefully mixing Tejano with Norteño and currents. They've become more popular than ever before despite being on the air for almost four decades. What they do is not something that most corporate suits would allow in major markets, but it works for a community filled with multigenerational Hispanics with Northern Mexican roots (which is what a large part of Houston is).

Was told that Romance is just temporary till someone leases 106.1.

Was told it’s around $35K a month.
It may be just a little longer than "temporary" at that price, Señor Tejano. Unless someone is just desperate to get their program on the air and doesn't do their homework in advance.

It's been awhile since I've been down that way. Isn't this the translator Don Werlinger was running a couple years ago?

As for a mighty good Tejano outlet, I've found that "Magic 95.9" in Victoria is quite comparable to what Houston once had with the old Kah-Koo-Koo-Kah. I'd certainly recommend it.

Apple Music works fine. 😂

Are you talking about “The Breeze” format that aired on 106.1 sometime during the 2010s? Lot of hype but didn’t last very long. Never had an originating station, AFAICT. Got a lot of chatter here on RD.

Perhaps there's an Applemusicdiscussions.com website for you out there, somewhere, but I'll stick with giving a free promotion to a hardworking, community-focused station owner like Minerva Lopez over plugging anything from the Apple. Hey, but whatever floats your boat, Mr. T.

That's the one, 🐸. I had forgotten old Don had borrowed the branding from the long dead 1460 in Freeport. So, this IS THAT translator.

Good luck.

Thumbs up on the link, 🐸. I probably should've done that myself.

106.1 is going Tejano , suppose to start tomorrow. this tejano format going back and forth on several stations, lack of support and most important lack of clients, runs out of money over and over again. i dont know what the deal is with clients who have a large percentage of tejano listeners but it just seems they dont support with dollars. i lost count of tejano stations in houston that have come and went. there is a reason why Tejano does ok on HD sub channels. my opinion

i might be correct but you say it goes back and forth on different stations but the last time Houston had a tejano station was maybe 8 years ago and nothing since them and before that it had been maybe 5 years
