WHAT COULD WORK ON 106.1?

i might be correct but you say it goes back and forth on different stations but the last time Houston had a tejano station was maybe 8 years ago and nothing since them and before that it had been maybe 5 years
It's @dm2024

To his defense, the format was tried on an FM translator that only covered Pasadena, TX. The AM signal was horrible once you went north of Galveston County. It was always going to be an uphill battle there, no matter what format was tried.

Success will come down to the kind of salespeople he hires. "Power" has already proven that. But IMO, it would certainly help if the format can skew younger and towards a wider demographic. There are lots of Texas based Norteño acts that are by definition Tejano, but never received any airplay on KXTN (the format's former unofficial flagship station). I would ignore all the old Tejanos who live off of social security and go after the younger crowd with accordion-heavy acts. Leave the synthesizer music at the retirement home and don't recycle old on-air talent the younger crowd doesn't know.

Get Tejano to evolve to modern times so it can shake off the stigma it has with advertisers.

Best of luck to @dm2024.

Okay, I'll rephrase the question. Which AM or FM station is the parent station for this 40 watt translator?

The FCC has KJOZ as the parent station of K291CE, but KJOZ is running separate programming. The reality is that 106.1 currently does not have an originating station.
As a translator, it cannot air separate programming from the originating station. That makes this operation illegal.

But as long as nobody complains to the FCC it'll keep happening in Houston. I've had multiple people at other clusters complain about them privately, but their parent companies will not allow them to say something to the FCC "because its not our problem".

These translators have little to no effect on Full FMs. No effect financially nor effect on signal.

There was a point in time that 105.3 was messing with KAMA-FM's IBOC HD transmission. I had dropouts around the fourth ward/Buffalo Bayou area that never happened before they signed on. Eventually that was remedied around the same time that the Hendersons made a formal complaint to the FCC.

But as far as 106.1, they get clobbered in the north part of town. Once you get a few miles north of 610, there's a lot of dropouts that make it unlistenable while 104.5, 105.3, 101.7, and 92.5 keep chugging along just fine. 94.1 also struggles, but it's still much better than 106.1.

It makes you wonder why 106.1 got downgraded in the first place by the owners. They should at least go back to their old directional pattern to improve coverage in the west, south, and eastern part of town. Iirc, they went from 245 watts to 40 watts for no apparent reason.

I believe 106.1 was on one of The Eagle's subchannels. I don't have HD anymore so I can't check.

But at the end of the day, as far as the FCC is concerned, the responsibility of having an originating station falls on the owners and not the tenant.

Why can't they complain to the FCC as private citizens? Could their parent company fire them for that?
They can do it, but some employers see the personal actions of their employees as an unofficial reflection of their organization (this is why so many people have been fired for comments about the Charlie Kirk assassination).

If companies don't want a complaint war to break out, then it's probably wise for their employees to respect the wishes of your employer.

That was back when 106.1 carried Hum FM. When Rehan Siddiqi bought KGOL 1180 it became the originating station for the format, now on K278DA 103.5.

Most recently KJOZ was the parent station for 106.1 and the Radio Vida Latina format. The AM was off the air for a couple of months, and KEYH started running RVL as a supposed parent station. RVL is now on K287BQ 105.3. KJOZ is airing Latinos Sports Radio, which seems to be mostly music.

Speaking of which: This week K-Love’s KLTW 105.3 notified the FCC that it had added HD. Can anyone within range of the station check to see if there are additional HD subchannels? Would likely be running Radio Nueva Vida and/or one of the K-Love Classics formats.

Meanwhile, does anyone have an opinion on the Puro Tejano 106.1 format and music playlist? (I am not in the target demographic.)

I never heard about this or made any changes on KAMA’s IBOC.

I was able to pick it up the past couple of nights.
HD2 text says Air1 but is just K-LOVE about 25 seconds behind
HD3 text says Radio Nueva Vida but is K-LOVE 2000's
