What do you consider a Dance format?

Would you include Remixes, Club Dance, or album/radio edit cuts from Cascada, Britney Spears and Kristinia DeBarge?

I prefer uptempo pop...without much hip-hop. Basically Sugary Rhythmic.

Also, does anyone know of a company other than JonesTM that provides disc service that includes "Dance" tracks?

Promo Only is a good one, but their are several,,, Other net stations can help you better than me...... Kudos for wanting to bring some dance to naptown,,, and to answer your question,, yes a dance station should play those songs..

Listen to Wmph Super 91.7 online, its a highschool dance station in Delaware with a wide variety of mass appeal music from the 80s through today.... I think this could work in Indy,,, as you know, Wbdg 90.9 goes all dance at night. http://wmph..org/

I'll preface this by saying I now work for a division of Promo Only, but the Dance Radio edits that they do is 2nd to none. I'd also look at ERG. I'm not a fan of TM Century as when I was at a label I'd have constant battles about them using our music without them asking for permission. Just my 2 cents.

Well, after years of social-radio conditioning, which has been what has pushed me to develop my current mindset and opinion on this question, I'd have to say I consider a dance format to be any format that caters MAINLY to dance hits, playing a mixture of established dance hits along with commercial pop remixes from today and back in the day, being 90-95% all house styled beats. In addition to that, the format also carries mixshows that mainly cater to repetitive house styled beats.

This is what I consider a dance format. However, asking me "what do I CONSIDER a Dance format?" and "what do I BELIEVE a Dance format should be / consist of?" would result in two completely different answers.

There is no such thing as a dance format anymore. Seems like there was a shift around 2005 where big ego dance format programers sold out, and played anything labeled "dance" on the record. Much of it is hip hop and wannbe CHR in disguise.
