What *DO* you like to listen to?

Alright let's take a spin on posts lately... let's be POSITIVE for a moment (I know it's hard to do, but hey give it a shot, doesn't hurt to try once!)

What area radio stations DO you enjoy listening to? Why is that?

Who is good for radio in the area?

My favorite station over the past year has been WAKR 1590 AM. I am hearing songs on there I have not heard in 30 years. And not only that, I love those songs coming thru the AM airwaves, it reminds me during the 70's when my favorite station while growing up and driving was the Big 1220 WGAR. I enjoy not only the WAKR jingles and music, but the news updates every half hour keep you up to date - Live and Local!!! As for FM---????? I agree with WSTB on Sundays when not listening to WAKR.

I will answer the question as it is asked. What do you like to listen to... as opposed to what do you listen to.

High energy old school Top 40 Tom Kent,G-98 type radio etc even the old 1330 WELW approach the old Big 1220 WGAR persnality chicken rock with "The Real" Bob James, Vernon with a V need I say more? I also like intellegent talk.. Bill O'Reilly, Gary Burbank,Micheal Reagan, Mike Gallagher Big Ed Schultz even a sprinkle of Art Bell. I'm sick of cookie cutter music formats and the talk show blow hards on both sides of the isle that think they "know it all" (Rush, Hanity, Lionel, Franken.)

Anymore I listen to podcasts on my mp3 player most of the time as I am driving to and from work. Like Jim Trefney, I have had it with all the political talk shows. I also enjoy SOJ. One of my favorite radio shows I listen to if I'm motoring around in my home area in the afternoon is Best of the Best with Dave Dial on WQKT. I sorta like his attitude.

Hey Jim....

I sent you a VO demo. Need a promo voice for your tv station? Maybe for the commercial talent pool?

Usually WKSU at night for the British voices on the BBC News, a little Prairie Home Companion (don't laugh), some Midnight Trucking Network on occasion on 760, WJR, I like to keep up on what's hot (Top 40 in my blood I guess) so I check out 96.5 on Thursday since it's "new adds" day, Coast to Coast overnights, even though it's got a bit lamer since George______? has been filling in for George Norey & Art's only on once in a while now, and after I get a few in me I go to Youtube & explore obscure 80's videos. Most everything on FM is overplayed rerecycled forcefed background noise to me.

Hopefully, this isn't tooo far off topic --- because it's what I LIKE to listen to, but can't anymore because it no longer runs in the Akron market. "The CBS Radio Mystery Theater" which used to run on WAKR (1590AM) at 11pm. Yeah, I know it's been YEARS since it ran --- but I just found episodes of it online and oh man, it's still great stuff!

THAT folks... was the great "Theater of the Mind" that has been mentioned in other posts on this site. I'm horrible at posting "links" ... so if anyone is interested in these episodes and wants the website - just let me know.

Old tapes of G-98's hay day, used to like "FlashBack w/ Bill St. James, I WOULD like old episodes of Rick Dees "American Music Magazine"(the shorter 1 or 2 hour versions that were on back in the 80's (I remember 92.5 WMHE in Toledo used to run them. Wish some stations would repeat those like they do AT40.
If I'm tired I like to listen to any PBS voice at the bottom of the dial that are almost whispering. They could be reading off 50 ways of serving turkey broth in a foreign language, & I'd still listen as long as it's not loud talk or same old mainstream brain fry repitition.

Old airchecks of G98 ;D Love it... that G98 shotgun jingle still rings in my head! Smashed highly processed audio chain also sounded Greeeattt!
