Heslet's a good propagandizer - but his market analysis IS dead-on. I suspect djdan will weigh in on this since he's an agency guy.

I think mr blatherwatch or whatever he wants to call himself is going to feel the loving touch of arbitron's boot for posting those numbers.

Interesting post and I agree for the most part. The
AM band is difficult to buy and fragmented, with none of the
stations over thre book delivering top ten numbers
6a-7p.

Agencies will continue to buy KMPS until they see if WOLF
is doing anything, but KMPS will have to come down on rate.
WOLF may not beat them, but it will reduce their ratings so
KMPS will have to decrease its price.

Top male buy will be KZOK. KISW will be a wait and see situation.
Top female buy will be KPLZ or KRWM depending on the age lean.
Top Adult buy will still be KMPS, followed by KZOK and KMTT. JACK
will need to prove itself by delivering a strong Winter and Spring
book, not just summer and what I assume will be a good fall.

Advertisers buying ten deep. Here are my picks based on consistant
performance in key demos.

KZOK
KMPS
KMTT
KRWM
KPLZ
KBSG or KJR-FM
KOMO or KIRO
KCMS
KWJZ
KUBE

Top 18-34 pick is KUBE followed by KBKS or KNDD.

HOly Cow!!! Guy's got a pair, I'll give em that

Wonder what blog site is gonna carry his Civil Suit?

There's a reason Joe Anybody can't just log on to RRONLINE or ALLACCESS and see those numbers.

damn I hope I don't make trouble for him... :(

That surely wasn't my intent.

LOL you can rest assured

that if something heavy lands on the blogger for that, it's not going to be because the link was posted here!!!

~~

I actually emailed him, and as far as I cna tell he's surprised that they haven't come after him already.

Like you said, Gigantic Balls!

I think "Windie" is in trouble by providing a link (the blog) which leads to
Arbitron numbers beyond 12+ 6am to Mid, Monday-Sunday in an open forum. And Radio-Info should delete his initial post because all three parties might be subject to legal action. Sorry to spoil the party.

I don't think so.
If said blogger isn't in the business, then someone in the business fed him the numbers.
If said blogger IS in the business, then that makes him an idiot because he's putting SOMEONE or more the one SOMEONE's job at risk, if not his own.

You can't just log on to RRonline or AllAccess to pull those numbers.

SOMEONE is gonna pay for that if Arbitron gets their nose out of joint over it.

Thats just crazy. If linking to someone who quotes an email that uses numbers that a corporation has copyrighted (man Arbitron is silly!) is illegal, well damn.

I personally think you're silly. You *might* have something if I'd quoted the email directly (which I didn't). Whats with the ratings-hiding-fearmongering? Do they really have you all that scared?

Well if he cracks, anyways. To my understanding he's a newspaper guy, and they take that whole 'protecting sources' thing seriously>

Don't think that's the reason at all

And that's a personal opinion you're absolutely entitled to.
But, as they say..it is what it is.
And until something changes, any numbers other than 12+ have significance to the rates advertisers are charged, or more to the point, are willing to pay for time at Station X.
Perhaps Station X doesn't want those numbers public.
Perhaps Arbitron doesn't want them public.
Doesn't matter...they OWN the copyright and that's that.

And believe me, I never meant to screw with them. And I"ll admit putting the link might have been ill-advised. I just don't get the "OMG RUN!" Attitude that people have. Its a tad offensive to be threatened (in essence) by some guy for doing what I did. I can't imagine a situation where I'd be liable for anything in this, and yet, I got a feeling from some of these people (FMsteve above) that they'd take joy in trying to cause someone trouble.

Theres nothing for me to gain in fighting against Arbitron's copywrite, regardless of what I think about it. It simply doesn't matter enough. As it is, I feel kinda squeegy extending this thread, because, as I said, I don't wanna make anyone trouble... But its interesting to discuss, so I keep going.

For the record, what I was originally after was seeing if the KOMO guy (who's selling ads afterall) was being straight, or how much he was spinning the numbers. And gladly, I got the answer to that :)

Wonder what blog site is gonna carry his Civil Suit?

geeze, chill

Its silly because of the hystrionic emotional reaction you all have.

The above post is a perfect example.

Also read below, made it pretty clear that my goal is not the least a campaign against arbitron, regardless of what I think about it. Strictly, what I think about Arb. doesn't matter, and it simply doesn't effect me. The culture of paranoia is still silly tho

Hey Windie! I certainly wouldn't want to cause trouble, just pointing out the reality of offering or transmitting copyrighted material. I'll gladly pull out my Arbitron book and cite the rule in question. And the terms of service at radio-info.

We have that silly "hystrionic emotional reaction" (btw, use of big words in unnecessary situations often is a sign of someone compensating for lack of intellegence...Harvard did a study so it must be true....anyway, we have those "reactions" because we'd all prefer to not see the market embargoed by Arbitron, we'd also like Arbitron to continue happily providing us a service that we somewhat happily pay for. People who post numbers without permission screw up life for the rest of us.
