What do you think about Albany radio?

My two cents...

94 ROCK.... Those live reads by JR go on and on. Love the prizes on 94 ROCK. Do you have to buy something from their cell phone client to get a prize?

Brian Cody is the best jock on FLY.

Didn't WROW use to have a trivia show on Sunday mornings?

I enjoy Tom Kent on WTRY. High energy program.

94 ROCK..I think since the ratinngs haven't been above 2.0 ever, and the $$ person is JR, that money could be better spent on improving the station. I would let JR go. Make the station 24/7 LIVE and either compete with PYX or change format.

Brian should be MD.
Edited by The Reporter on 10/31/05 02:02 PM.

Albany is one of the better markets for Rock, in the NorthEast. With WPYX, WQBK,

WHRL, WEQX, WRCZ, and rim shot WNYQ, the numerous variations of Rock formats, are very well covered here. Compare that to New York City, which will be down to one Rock station, WAXQ, by January....

I strongly agree too. Albany Radio needs a Dance station like WKTU or a Classic Dance one like WNEW which would be great for the capitol region. Here's what needs to be done besides a dance format, We also need a Lite FM like NYC's got that plays lite music from 1964 on up, B95.5 does the opposite which is no good. Magic 100.9 should turn full oldies with no limitations in the daily playlist and do special weekends and play 55-89 oldies like CBSFM used to be over the years and give WTRY good strong competition and in the end WTRY would lose hands down to Magic 100.9 since 98.3 is just about all voicetracked except the morning show and afternoon drive plus there is no variety at all, it is mainly all 60s which is no good since they are supposed to play the same amount of 70s as the 60s too and not act like the music died after 1975. The perfect song for WTRY is It's The Same Old Song by The 4 Tops from 1965 it fits them perfect with the line The Lengendary Dan Ingram used to say except today its revised, "When you hear the same old song you know you gotta be listening to WTRY" ain't that the truth for sure.

Magic already beats TRY . . every book . . .

Good for Magic, i'm glad. I just got a listener email from WTRY they are going Christmas music again this year which is very stupid. I hope Magic 100.9 gets more ratings once wtry goes to that. I also hope Magic 100.9 does a Top 500 songs of all time consistent of songs from 55-89 this Thanksgiving Weekend, that would be nice. And what i love about Magic 100.9 The variety of Oldies and live djs another thing WTRY dont have most of the time. I wish 100.9 would stop playing the big band/jazz stuff though and just stick with the oldies.

I was just up in the Adirondacks this past summer.
Some of the radio stations have changed and changed for good.
A couple years ago WENU 101.7 played all old music and i could not even listen too it.
But now as off this past Aug it went back to the music they were playing in the 90's so that is much better.
And also they are playing some of the older jingles. But where i live down here in new jersey i really wish it was on the online so people can listen to the station all over the world.

Well...as of 9/1/06 WENU is gone....replaced by Classic Hits/Rock WQYQ......

I think the Albany radio market is garbage!!!

Nothing good on ...

I wonder if Albany is 1 of the worst markets ;D

What a visionary!!! Such a truly insightful post!!!!

Albany needs an Urban or Urban AC station. Jams 96 or whatever it's called is basicly Top 40 hip hop for Caucasian teenagers.
Syracuse is a city of simliar size and demographics that sustains a Clear Channel owned Urban AC. With 96.3 Jams, perhaps an Urban would have too much overlap, an Urban AC would be good. Even if on one of the AM signals.

An Urban AC station could work here as a solid niche but even a better niche would be a station like the old WQBK was in the early/mid 80s.
