What do you think about the NAB?

Fine for owners, engineers...not much for programming folk.

I think it is good for the most part and still attend every other year if possible. It is very large and too much if you try to take it all in. For me, I know what I am looking for before I go and attend only what suits me and leave all the rest for the young folks and go-getters. I learn something new every time and also like to look at the pretty young girls, thats about all I can do, ha ha.

If you mean the convention, when I went (1994) it was a great place to see eqpt mfgs and service providers (including format providers). We were not yet on air and picked out our transmitter, console, and automation there. It had some informative presentations, too. At the risk of belaboring the obvious, don't get caught up in the "hospitality."

If you mean the organization, I think they represent CC, Ibiquity, Harris, and the other big money players well. As to small operators, I don't think they do so well.

IMHO, the best $50 a year i spent was for the Miss. Assoc. of Broadcasters membership. Just the access to their lawyer was worth much more than that. I never took time to go to the state conventions--they seemed much too interested in golf tournaments and cruises for me.

Speaking of the MAB, I quit them years ago after a dispute with the executive board. I've had no use for them ever since. They are just a club for "good ole boys." I think J. Boyd would probably agree with my assessment as he too had an issue with them year ago, right JB?

Please be candid but avoid being "over the line" please.
Thanks

Great if you're one of their prime contributors. Otherwise, not so much.

These are the folks who adamantly objected to LPFM on "interference grounds." They claimed that 100 watt LPFMs on third-adjacents to local broadcasters would cause objectional interference to their 100,000 watt member stations.

But they have no problem with 250 watt RELIGIOUS TRANSLATORS being placed on SECOND adjacent frequencies to these same local broadcasters.

Anyone else see a red herring here?

Frankly, for broadcasters like myself, they don't do much. I paid their dues last year, (and their dues are really expensive) and felt like it was a total waste of money, so I withdrew my membership this year. If you are a huge publically-traded broadcasting company with two hundred or more stations, they are great. If you own a couple of small market stations, they aren't any help.
