What do you think will happen tomarrow with the Harbor and Amp

A 3 share is what they had against Kiss and Zou when they flipped in '86.... Sooo....

In '86 Sunny Joe White's Kiss was very eclectic and much more vulnerable than the tightly run Kiss 108 of today. Kiss and Jam'n were not sister stations, able to strategically outflank anything AMP does. YouTube, Pandora, and iTunes didn't exist. AMP has an exponentially tougher battle ahead today than WHTT ever faced.

I predict the return of the heritage WODS within a year. Just like WCBS-FM in NYC. Until then, Greater Media will enjoy the fruits of CBS's largesse.

GM will reap the benefits via WMJX and WROR and WBOS... For now. By default. We'll see about tomorrow...

AMP fold to KISS? Not gonna happen. Matty is an extremely successful morning personality firmly ensconced on CHR 107.9. He carries KISS like Stern carried WBCN.

Last I knew, kids listen to CHRs for music. Kids put up with personality on KISS like Alt fans did with WBCN's blah blah blah... Until WBOS figured them out and beat them like a drum by playing the music.

Kids love CHR music. AMP plays tons of CHR music. KISS ain't the only game in town anymore. Kids now have a "go to" alternative for their favorite tunes. This will be indicated in the next Book.

Later...

It's only been on a month... and already it's "switching back in a year". Sheesh.

I don't think it's going back to oldies, classic hits or whatever it's called these days. The demos are lower with AMP, so even if it isn't #1 or 2 in 6+, if there are good 18-34 numbers, it will make more money than the old WODS.

CBS hasn't even put jocks in place yet (they will) and it hasn't been through the fall months, where there are TONS more 18-34's in the market due to college being back in session.

More desirable demo with the youth. Again consider that one of the songs ODS played the day before they switched was I Wanna Hold Your Hand. If you were 12 in '64, you are now 60. Pass the
Geritol. *(Sorry! :) )

And besides those who lament the loss of 103.3 can try 105.7..including ex-ODS jock Barry Scott.
ROR may get a bump now what with the transplanted 60s-80s 'ODS fans.

*--Wikipedia: "The name conveys a connection with aging, as in "geriatric."")

breaking from Boston Radio Watch: Dan Mason named PD of Amp

http://www.bostonradiowatch.com/

CBS' Mark Hannon: "I know Dan and the talented staff at AMP Radio will build the station into a powerhouse in the years to come.”

(Yeah...right up till they flip back to old--, er, Hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s a year from now :) )

Mark of BRW said ROR is doing quite well with the inherited ODS audience: "#2 most listened to signal in August". So 103.3 will stick with their Amp and 105.7 will have
60s-70s-80s to itself (along with maybe rimshotters like WBOQ) but I don't think 103.3
goes back to its previous format.

It's what happened with CBS blew up oldies WCBS-FM in NYC. They reverted back, and WCBS-FM then got better ratings than before the misguided flip.

I saw they CBS hired Dan Mason Jr. Still, if AMP doesn't approach the ratings they had before the flip, they may do what they did in NYC.

"Kids now have a "go to" alternative for their favorite tunes. ".... yes, it's called "YouTube". I don't like it either, and I hope I'm wrong, but what's blasting out of kids cars these days isn't FM radio.

Did NYC have another station the oldies (yes I know, we're not supposed to use that word) station the disaffected CBS-FM listeners could go to? In Boston, the disaffected ODS fans have gone to ROR. Would CBS try to lure them back by switching back to the old format? Who knows.

Some other stations may also have picked up some ODS listeners. 80s and some 70s are heard on the Harbor, right?

In other words, is Boston the same as NYC? Was there a place for 60s-80s fans
to switch to like there was here? If not, I could see 'CBS switching back to the format to pick them up again. But here GM has ROR to attract them. Is the
market big enough for two 60s-80s stations? Make that one, only 'ROR.

WODS didn't have a ratings problem, it had a demo problem.

Again, if the 6+ remains lower for AMP but they rank top 5 in 18-34, then it's a victory for CBS. Nobody is buying 6+ numbers.
