What does 1200 do now? Talk gone

Rush and Coast to Coast back to RKO. Supposedly 1200 is dropping talk, at least conservative talk.
Katz and Severin outta work? Bobbailey has to be glad.

What does 1200 do...Spanish? Fox Sports? Prog talk? WHO KNOWS!

Losing Rush and George Noory is a huge blow, but 1200 still has some big names, Beck being the most notable. I could see them moving Severin to Rush's slot, and airing Hannity live. They'll still have Mark Levin for the evenings, and perhaps they could bring back John Batchelor. They're not out of options. But they should have taken the opportunity to move to FM when they had the chance.

I think there going to go fox sports radio, with the sports hub dropping fox when CBSgoes online with there new network.

A huge blow? What it means is that Clear Channel has decided to give up the ghost on 1200. They are co-owned with Premiere, which syndicates Beck, Hannity, & Levin along with Rush and C2C that are now on 680. It was their decision to move Rush & Noory back to WRKO. Their flip of newly acquired 101.7 to adult hits instead of the widely expected AM simulcast sealed 1200's fate. CC needs to clear Rush, so once they got 'RKO to take him back, it took the pressure off what's left of 1200 to perform, and leaves the station open for a flip. They may re-arrange the deck chairs and make a go of it for awhile, maybe waiting out the contracts of Severin and Katz, but I can't see it lasting very long.

The question is, do they go progressive talk? The major names are available, and they still have several progressive talkers around the country. Randi Rhodes is also syndicated by Premiere, so who knows? CC seems to be down on Spanish language formats the last year or two, so I don't think Rumba will be coming back, or a simulcast of Mia on 1430. Fox Sports Radio is also a possibility, although the field will be crowded with 98.5, WEEI and ESPN on 850. We'll see what happens....

Kinda of shows that even Rush doesn't do well anymore on compromised signals. There was a time when his show would have carried the rest of the schedule even on a compromised stick. If Rush can't make it, does that possibly lend credence to the liberal POV that they didn't thrive due to compromised signals holding them back? Yeah, I content had a lot to do with it, but Rush was brought down by a bad overall signal.

Right now 1200 is still listing Rush, and Coast to Coast from 9p-6a. That means 12 hours of programming are about to go away shortly, and with the local hosts off the website, it looks like 1200 will be flipping very soon...

Hannity was in for Severin today, which on its face was not strange because he's in for Severin a lot.

Severin's twitter posts stopped about 24 hours ago.

But Katz was on this morning. Did he do a farewell?

This presser was posted to 1200's website in August of 2011, or almost exactly a year ago. If Severin only signed a one year deal back then, it probably is close to running out anyway.

What does 1200 do now? PT?

It would be funny if after all the futzing around with formats, 1200 returns to Progressive Talk with a schedule including Stephanie Miller, Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes (Al Franken is otherwise engaged). With the election very close, how would a Progressive Talk format do with a better signal and promotion? Who knows? Assuming the changes at WWZN are permanent, they would not have significant competition.

Unless they go ethnic or brokered, this might be the best bet because it would be a format where they wouldn't be duplicating anyone.

Actually as of right now they are still conserv talk maybe for 2 weeks...or maybe beyond but with no local hosts.
Talkers: "Clear Channel may be cutting its losses and eliminating salaries and going with an automated station in light of the challenging talk radio market in Boston."

So Andy Dean, Beck (they get to clear him), Rush for now (Mark S was hinting they could carry him still on 1200 even w/ RKO?!?), Sean, Levin, then "Coast 2 Coast Early Edition" but that show will go soon. Prog talk? Who knows, but they want to clear their shows. Premiere does have some
lib talkers (Randi Rhodes?) but they want Beck, Sean, etc. on. As for Schulz, Steph Miller--
would they try? Or keep conserv talk but no local stuff...

Facebook group, blogs etc. urging WXKS AM to reconsider and put Katz on but I'm afraid that train's left the station. I suggested he could try to get on RKO or TKK as fill in, weekends, whatever.

Maybe Salem also recognizes the glut of conservative talk in the market, or else they would have flipped WROL to it. Maybe if 1200 goes completely to another format it's possible, but they seem to be satisfied with the status quo.

Talkers is reporting that O'Connor is gone, so it looks like 1200 will be birdfed only until management decides what to do with the frequency. They may just try to see if they get any traction with national conservative talk. But, my guess is that they'll eventually flip the switch to Fox Sports Radio (which Premiere distributes) after January 1st, which is when CBS' new sports network debuts and displaces FSR from nights and weekends on the Sports Hub. I still think progressive talk could be a possibility since the sports format is ridiculously crowded right now but who knows...

Lauro, enough with the Touch! It isn't gonna happen. If anything, CC would put their own Premium Choice Urban AC format on it if that's the direction they wanted to go, but I seriously doubt they're going to put a music format of any type on 1200.
