what does a jock in Atlanta make.

I will soon me moving to Atlanta and im wondering what does a good radio jock make in atlanta seeing how its in the top ten markets what is the average salary?

Unlike working at a McDonalds drive-thru, for example, I would assume that the pay scale is based upon experience and a previously proven track record.

If that's not correct, then I'll guess $6.22/hr. to start.

By the way - didn't you start a different thread a short time ago that stated you already received an offer? If that is the case, wouldn't you have already done the legwork to understand the market (including salary expectations), and gone through the 'interview' process?

Me thinks this may be a fishing expedition.

I have a job offer to work in radio in Atlanta and im, comming from a smaller market i'm wondering what are the pros and cons of radio in atlanta?

What does it matter if the guy has an offer or not?...he wants to know what kind of money to expect.

PMD will get you about 100k depending on station. Salary is usually in the 80's-90's on average. Some guys make more, some less. Plus you have to figure in endoresments and remotes

Nights - 30-40k
Middays - 50ish with remotes
Mornings - totally depends on experience
RGs were making in the 400's before they were fired the first time
Steve and Vicki - 500's or more
Bert - 400's
Frank Ski - not sure, but I'm guessing he does REALLY well

You have to remember that stations want you to do more than just an air shift these days. They want production, copywriting etc. to justify your salary. Can't just walk in, do your shift and go home like the old days.

Thanks man thats the kind of answer i was looking for so 50k a year is not to much to ask if you have the experience!

I had heard a while back that Steve (of Steve and Vicki) is in the 800-900 thousand range. My guess is that Leslie (morning co-host, PD at 99X and MD at Q100) is in the same neighborhood, which by the way is a real nice neighborhood. Steve of the Steve Show is on the high end because of tenure, experience and numbers. Dekker gets a case of beer and kicked in the nuts every night before his shift.

nope! im actualy going for somthing at viva so im trying to get all my facts in order does el patron not have their staff yet?

Yes well also remembeer ATl just recently cracked into the top ten. Im sure from management's perspective unless you've been hired since, they're still paying below top ten wages. "Welcome to the big time, now here's your paycheck reflecting whhat you will now make in market number ten but the check looks like market number 12" . Not a slight on ATl, but cold corproate reality.

BOO, HISS!.

i dont think that my question was answerd do hispanic jocks make the same amount of money that english speaking jocks do? lets say for the same company do the guys at viva make the same amout as the guys from the project 96.1

i hope you are kidding. if not i sure am glad i got out of radio

I think its safe to say that in these times, whether we are a top ten market or not, companies arent overpaying "on the come" for talent. Anybody tenured making big bucks is because they have earned the right to it. I havent seen market averages for a couple of years at least (Miller Kaplan used to produce a report), but i think that numbers were a bit misleading because of some long tenured people in the dayparts they report about. Those affect the averages.

It also depends on the overall financial success of the radio station and its market rank. The more dough that passes thru sales, the more value they put in the talent that helps them get there. Hourly PT wages really vary across the dial. It can anywhere between $10ph to $16ph. I havent heard much above or below that. If you can get a job in the mid 40s to 50s somewhere in this kind of market, prove yourself and grow with them...you'll be fine. There is plenty of money thats there in remotes and appearances in an active market like Atlanta for extra income.

Im not sure i understand the last post! anyone else have some figures?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic or mean-spirited here, merely honest. If you don't really have a clue as to what the going rates are for varied positions, or don't understand the posts with the $ numbers, I'm really surprised you're being offered a position in the #9 market. This simply doesn't sound legit to me.

Don't get too excited about the numbers you've seen. Viva is owned by Clear Channel, and they've been slashing salary left and right. Good luck entering the building of death.

The sad part of this discussion is that these salaries are no higher than what I was making in a top 10 market 20 years ago. No place fancy either.
