I think its safe to say that in these times, whether we are a top ten market or not, companies arent overpaying "on the come" for talent. Anybody tenured making big bucks is because they have earned the right to it. I havent seen market averages for a couple of years at least (Miller Kaplan used to produce a report), but i think that numbers were a bit misleading because of some long tenured people in the dayparts they report about. Those affect the averages.
It also depends on the overall financial success of the radio station and its market rank. The more dough that passes thru sales, the more value they put in the talent that helps them get there. Hourly PT wages really vary across the dial. It can anywhere between $10ph to $16ph. I havent heard much above or below that. If you can get a job in the mid 40s to 50s somewhere in this kind of market, prove yourself and grow with them...you'll be fine. There is plenty of money thats there in remotes and appearances in an active market like Atlanta for extra income.
