What does Evansville listeners think of Kiss?

Since Kiss has been Hip Hop for about 6 months or so, I figure I'd ask and see what those of you in E-Ville think of the Hip Hop format. Are you liking it music wise, jock wise, think it needs more work?

I don't work for Regent just to clairfy, I'm a listener myself, and have listened online a few times, I thought the music was ok, not spectacular, but that might be due to the product currently out(West Coast Till The Casket Drop!) the Jocks were aiight, but why so many white guys especially when a couple of them were from the previous top 40 format, notably Max Power.

Mabye they should get Big Boy's morning show out of KPWR and at least hire some "street" personalities. And how about adding a 5:00 mix and a Saturday Night mixshow. Other then that, at least it ain't KS 107.5.

As a listener and fellow broadcaster, KISS sounds small market.. the music is pretty focused, for what they are they're doing a good job.

The imaging SUCKS and the talent is horrible... with the right amount of coaching and development they'd prob be ok... but, sometimes when I tune in I don't know if I'm listening to a CHR/R or a high school radio station.

I've listened to KISS on occasional trips through that area. As far as music goes, they sound just as major as any market in the country, as far as the format goes. I had to look at the website for confirmation, but they do have a bunch of white guys on there. You promote the station as a 'street' station, but their personalities are white. I don't think that's a good look at all. I agree with the last reply, they do need some seasoning. I heard DJ Paul Bunyon went to school down there, maybe he could come in a help out his alum city as far as a mixshow goes. They need to supply the urban host for their urban image. Nikky B has a ton of potential, but they shouldn't rest their laurels on a rookie. I can't even begin to believe Max Power is on that station. That's funny. And who is the funny looking black guy, I think his name is Raj. The name is lame. Bring the street out. The station has a ton of potential, but then again, a hip-hop station in any market has the same potential. It's the most popular music genre out today... ;)

Nikky is a good talent.. but yea, she needs to be coached.... the morning team seems a little odd to me... white guy in his 40's.. with early 20's african american girl... espically with it being up against Booker and Sarah on HOT, "Van and Nikky B" are destined for failure... but whatever.. it's a Regent station... and we all know how much money Regent puts into things, espically in Evansville!

They really do only have 3 minorities on their station. I am not judging, but isn't a hip-hop format station supposed to have more that 3 minorities? I mean, one black girl, one old black guy, and a Arab-looking (no offense) guy. Do they expect to survive on that? I mean, geesh!!!

Yeah, I'm sure most of the listeners in 86% white Evansville and 89% white Vanderburgh County are concerned that their hip-hop is being announced by white DJs. Heck, Kiss FM is arguably more diverse than the city of Evansville itself (speaking in proportions)

Exact to the point.... They'd bring their quarter hours up by playing the "Chicken Dance" every morning at 7:am (for German-American Arobics).... Heck? We had a daily German Newspaper, five days a week, up until 46 years ago... To the inner city and suburban kids wanting to be 'gansta' in "E'ville", it's 'out there'...... 8) Kiss was doing it right back in the late "CC" days... We had (I was doing partime news/sports at the time for the cluster) a young PD from Michigan who asked me how to compete with the 'big stick' 96-STO.. I told him, you'll die trying to go after their huge-ness in the ADI/MSA... They'll sell on that... Go after them by doing the Tonya Harding thing... Take them into the ally and hit them below the knees, until they bleed! Go after the 12-25 market with no shame and daytime target 18-34 females... At that time Brill had 'STO and they were really a Hot A/C-Adult CHR day and Hot CHR at night.. No major competitor and they wanted the savory sales by going after the lower end of the WIKY audience...... When I was with CC-Evansville, KISS BEAT 'STO two or three books in the four county metro (12+).... They did not come close in the bigger ADI/MSA, but sales reps always complained of the urban based CHR outside of the Rick Dees syndication during AM drive.... ;)

Wow! You nailed it with the specifics. I always wondered how they were doing down there. Most of inner city and suburban kids these days are really into that music. Some of it isn't that bad either. The Billboard charts is really diversified with the rise of that format. I think in an overall sense, its really a good thing. With STO, I would love to them get the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. It fits Evansville. Rick Dees is really starting to burn out...

Yeah... Dees was burning out with quarter hours in the last months on Kiss-Fm... That's when they went with (who I think was Valentine syndication) another show, before trying the two encarnations of local talent, Nikky B. has a ton of potiential.. She needs to get to a midsouth market in a slightly larger market to 'gleem'..... On 'STO, under South Central's care...(I work at A/C WIKY part time and fill, like the 8 day run I am on, plus my full time work...Whew!)...They are HOT CHR 24/7 and the current morning show is a "GIANT" in the ADI/MSA....They are the one on top in that relm, as WIKY and WKDQ dominate in the Metro morning drive... Booker and Sarah have the numbers to stay put... When I get to see a suburban's 'county by county' diary breakdown, 'STO is "BIG MUTHA".... WBKR does great ADI/MSA numbers out of Owensboro... But 'KDQ and WIKY run constantly between 24 and 30% of the listening in a four county market with 19 to 20 stations listed in the general ratings release... Wow! I can say, this place is 'class' (South Central) and 60 years, strong in the market.... 8)
