What does everyone think of Blaqk Audio?

What do think of the AFI side project Blaqk Audio and their new song Stiff Kittens. The song sounds very old school.
 
I wasn't into the last AFI album at all, but this project does a better job of integrating electronic influences. I definitely look forward to hearing what the rest of the album has to offer. As for AFI - hopefully now that they have an outlet for synthesizers, they can move in a more organic, less bubblegum direction in the future. People hated on Sing The Sorrow but at least that album didn't feel like an attempt to get played on TRL, like Decemberunderground did.

Decemberunderground, as a whoel, was less radio friendly than Sing The Sorrow. It didn't sound forced, sounded like an hoenst attempt and a band refining and expanding their sound. No need to make dark punk records like Art Of Drowning or Black Sails if that's not where their heads are.
 
Maybe I'm focusing on the very bubblegum "Miss Murder" (easily the poppiest thing they've ever done), the ballad "The Interview" (would have been the next video I'm sure if not for the focus on Blaqk Audio) and the U2 sounding "The Missing Frame" too much ... when you get past those tracks the album isn't bad, but it just feels like it's missing something. It could be that it's less dark thematically than previous efforts, perhaps it's less screaming, or maybe it's the lack of epic sounding tracks like "God Called In Sick Today" or "The Great Disappointment" - whatever it was, I couldn't get into it, and I've enjoyed everything they've done since the beginning.

I agree there was a certain urgency to their earlier works. Although, I'm not really that much of a fan of their VERY early releases. It's interesting, if you look at the backs of those discs, they're not trying to be the whole goth/Hot Topic punk, it just looks more or less like a spin-off of a NOFX release.

That being said, I do enjoy the Blaqk Audio disc and I'll be at the show in NYC in a few weeks.
