What does Houston want for 2006? Better radio

This is a funny excerpt from a Houston Chronicle article about what Houstonians want for 2006:

<blockquote>"I'm over 2005 — over the 2000s in general. The whole millennia has been stressful, what with war, famine, disease, natural disasters, all that stuff," said April Marchant, 35, a bartender at Warren's Inn on Market Square.

Among Marchant's wishes for 2006 are improved rodeo and radio in Houston and for the rivalry between Houston and Dallas to end.</blockquote>
Wow...that says something when out of all the things she could have wished for - she wished for better Houston radio!

I never thought I'd see "rodeo" and "radio" mention together in this context, but nevertheless...

I would love to see a true, reliable survey of Houstonians' thoughts on radio in this town. I think you'd see A LOT of dissatisfaction. The questions I'd like answers to would be:

1) What type of music is under represented on local radio?
2) What artists (old and new) aren't receiving the airplay they should?
3) Have you changed your listening habits? (i.e. satellite radio, iPod)
4) If terrestrial radio adjusted to your tastes, would you return?

I'm afraid it may be too late. Now that people can hear what they want to, without commercials, on their MP3 players and satellite, why would they go back? Maybe this a survey I should start on my column at houstonist.com.
