What does it say about The Fan...

if in one day, the lead play by play guy for the Texas Rangers, Eric Nadel, (who calls the games on your station) and the color commentator for the Dallas Cowboys radio games, Babe Laufenberg, (who will be calling the games on your station) are on a competing sports station (The Ticket)? Well that is what happened today. And in Babe's case he was even talking about how much he listens to The Ticket.

If nothing else it tells me that the Ticket is confident enough in their product that they can give air time to people that are (or will be) on competing stations.

And/or they don't dictate topics that are or aren't off limits to their hosts. Unlike ESPN. (See the latest Dale Hansen story at the Observer if you don't get that reference)

I've heard rumors that Strangis was contractually not allowed to do a show other than on WBAP. ("Razor" Reagh obviously doesn't/didn't have the same clause)- but otherwise, isn't this a win-win situation. In this case KTCK gets a knowledgable voice (Nadel, Babe, etc) on to talk about one of the big sports- and the other hosts get to basically plug their competing product, rangers broadcasts, cowboy games, etc.

Now if Babe wasn't talking about the Cowboys, I could see where the fan might have issues- but that raises another point that Scrtr84 mentioned. If Eric or Babe are employed by the teams, and not the station, can the station really dictate what interviews they give? Wouldn't that be Jerry's call?

At one time, WBAP barred Ralph Strangis to go on any radio station. That clause ended sometime in 2008, before the Ticket had the Stars. Eric Nadel is completely employed by The Rangers and not KRLD. At one time KRLD reimbursed the salaries for Nadel and Rojas. Now the Rangers are responsible. From what I have read, KRLD-FM employes Brad and Babe, not the Cowboys. They only worked for the Cowboys when KTCK broadcasts the games

KRLD-FM bought the rights to the Texas Rangers and Eric Nadel. If the Rangers want to move their station is 97.9 The Beat then Eric goes with them.

Yeah...and they "bought" the rights to the Cowboys too. Wow...DID they ever? The "bought" a whole lot more production expense than they ever realized would be part of the deal, and amazingly they get ZERO money for any of it. That should sting for...what...about FIFTEEN long years? Sure hope that luxury suite at the new stadium was worth it for Purdy and David to "hang with the rich and famous."

Yes it does. theres just a few typos in there. What he is saying is the Rangers wanted to be on 97.9 then Eric would go to 97.9 because he is hired by the rangers and not a specific radio station.

Yes, I read it the same way.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Let's see if this sounds better.

Eric Nadel's radio contract is with the Texas Rangers and not with a radio station. Nadel and the Rangers are packaged together so if the Rangers move to another station Eric will join them because of the contract they both have.
