What does it take for you to add a record?

I am merely looking for input, not debate.

Large market to not-rated, what does it take for you to add a rock record?

How small a market do you have to be in to even have the power to decide anymore?

What about satellite and format services?

I work in a bit of a vacuum, just wondering what its like in the rest of the rock radio programming world...

Thanks!

I'm not a programmer.
But my guess would be a "radio buy" wink wink, nod nod.

I seen it happen with the band Hurt.
I happen to like the band, but their label Capitol bought some spots
at a certain station and suddenly they we're in night rotation.

Spots went away, and poof. out of rotation.

Even if it wasn't what it looked like, it sure seemed suspect.
If walks like a duck...

I am a programmer, and I've never added a record based on a buy.

However, I do admit to once adding a 'marginal' record (I Dont Mind At All by Bourgeous Tagg)for front row seats to U2 while they were recording "Rattle And Hum" in Denver.

FatPunk: Bottom line, the song has to be good...fit the 'sound' of my station AND the expectations of my P1s.
