WHAT DOES THE CUMULUS-CITADEL MERGER MEAN FOR ATLANTA

There is an older similar thread on here.......kinda bogged down, so here's a fresh thread.

The older thread dealt mostly with should Cumulus buy Star 94? Rock 100.5 signal, what
sould be done with it. Will the merger mean job losses and station consolidation (same
building)?

Here are the stations in play......
WWWQ- Cumulus (pretty strong, probably little effect)
WNNX- Cumulus (languishing, some effect possible)
WKHX- Citadel (audience yo-yoing, some effect possible)
WYAY- Citadel (recent changes, some effect possible)

It's quite possible that formats will stay and nothing will change.

So I guess we should rephrase that famous question...

When will this affect Q100? ???

The one change I could see is switching signals for WYAY and WNNX.

99X has gone from a 1.2 to 1.3 and now 1.6, showing a real upward trend, despite having arguably the worst FM signal in Atlanta, while True Oldies is down to a 2.0. I suspect that 99X on 106.7 might jump quickly to at least a 3.0.

The Radio Disney and ESPN-owned AM stations stayed with Disney at the time of the ABC sale to Citadel, so, no, 590 is not affected by this deal...it's still owned by Disney.

I assume you mean WWWQ-HD2 and the 97.9 translator instead of WNNX (Rock 100.5).

[email protected] would also cover Athens well.

I would also add the three Dickey Broadcasting AM sportstalkers (WCNN, WFOM, and WIFN).

Duh on my part. You are correct. And WWWQ-HD2 only has a 0.7, but I still think that station and format would outperform Oldies on 106.7.

This summer's billings will tell which format(s) if any, goes. A highly leverage company will think twice about ending a revenue stream to try a format (99X) that it could not sell and killed once.
