What does this mean for Free FM?

Been listening to O&A and the Doghouse this morning and they have been saying they would not be surprised if they were not on the air come Monday.

Do you think CBS would drop the Talk format on all of it's stations because of this BS with Imus?

X

That would be awsome then they could experiment with a classic hip-hop format, or just good old Rock Radio K-ROCK, but better than before. Free FM sucks!

First, I find the statement from Les Moonves over Imus firing to be totally hypocritical considering CBS has been and still is, by far, the worst offender of trash and potty talk and stunts of all broadcasting companies: Janet Jackson, Howard Stern, Don Imus, Opie & Anthony, All of their Free FM's, etc...

As for the Free FM's, I'd say they have to clean them up but since no one is listening, who is going to complain? This will give CBS good reason to dump most of the Free FM formatted stations without upsetting Wall Street as they raise their new "Higher Ethical Standards" banner.

Both NBC and CBS execs should have been fired over this as well. They allowed it and encouraged it for GREEN for way too long. They're a worse offender than Imus.

Virtually nobody was listening to Imus, either.

That isn't true. He didn't have the largest audience of all talkers but his listerers were PREMIUM with high incomes. Remember, WFAN was the highest billing station in America.

Maybe in certain key demos. Overall, WLTW was the big daddy year after year, according to BiaFN.

Going back to the beginning of the thread, it's likely that no one heard Opie & Anthony make that comment, since it was on their show, so nothing further will happen.

We can only hope that CBS Radio puts the nails in the coffin of the terrestrial radio cesspool that has become known as Free FM. Stations that can't draw bigger numbers than college radio stations should be on some low frequency AM dial, not FM radio.

Why would they say that other than for the sake of controversy? They'll be on Monday.

...means absolutely nothing for Free FM. I was also listening to O&A this morning and they have definately cleaned up their show - less offensive comments, less bleeped out cuss words, overall semi-serious discussion. They're probably going to lay low for a week or so until this Imus bs blows over, then they will coming back gradually. I'd rather listen to K-Rock on 92.3 for the next couple of weeks!!
