What Else Can They Sell?

Gotta hand it to Clear Channel for selling naming rights to their local news on KFWhyEye. Now not only do Nurse Jeff and I get to hear how hot it'll be from their sponsored weather center and how the commute to Buckeye goes from their sponsored traffic center, but we'll catch the latest headlines from their news center named after a local gold dealer! Guess it's just a matter of time before the KFWhyEye call letters will be named after a weight loss clinic, soft water outfit or carpet cleaner. Jeez.. what ever happened to Less is More? Now more is even a lot more

well you could get a more fair and balanced station on KJZZ.. only have to listen to the fund raisers every so often. Times are tough and everyone is looking for a different way to make money. :-X

Hi..I can tell you that many stations are "naming" thier studios..many are also selling the Top of Hour ID, and time checks..and towers even. Yeah I have a client station that named the three towers "Manny, Moe and Jack..the Pep Boys POWER TOWERS"..one small market station, because of the mountainous region (poor 2-way performance) SOLD fire dispatch calls..song ends and you hear three tones"

Attention 1100 first responders there's a reported dumpster fire behind the apartments on the new Big Road..respond 10-18"..then the local deejay hit's the spot.."If this were your home or business would YOU be properly covered? The Weston Insurance Group urges you to call 349-2050 today before the next fire call has your address on it"

This stuff is not new, and smaller markets are making the light bill with them..so why not sell EVERYTHING? The non-commercial (yeah right) stations do it all the time.

Happy New Year!

NFVG

Thanks for the tip on the TOH IDs, NFVG!

An obvious one is: "Broadcasting from the Ponderosa Lumber tower of
power at 64th Street & Thomas, this is KAZG Scottsdale/Phoenix."

Now if they can only figure out how to override the automation and drop
this track onto the air just before the lamptimer pulls the plug.

For the recently-resurrected 1310:
"With talent on loan from...the bishop, this is KIHP Mesa."

The KayFuNNsters chime in with:
"I'm Moe Ansari, and you can hear my entire show before we drop power--
no matter what month it is--on 1510 KFNN Mesa/Phoenix."

As for other KFYI sponsorships (this is more of a spec from the client in a
pitch to the station):

"Not only can I sell your home in 53 days, I can ID your station at the top
of every hour...KFYI Phoenix, KFYI HD Phoenix*, KNIX-FM HD2 Phoenix.
And if you're not happy, firrrre meeee...(syrupy sincere) thank you."

*: This is the piece of the ID puzzle that 55/FYI forgets in their current
unsponsored TOH ID.

The following post is sponsored by: Einbinder Flypaper, the brand you've grown to trust over the course of three generations

This is why going to the movies suck, costs more and you have to endure terrible ads before the film and terrible product placements in the film.

Above post brought to you by: The Monongahela Metal Foundry: Casting steel ingots with the housewife in mind

In big time city Philly-del-fia -- the studios of CBS sports blaster, 610-WIP, are known as "The Tasty Kake Studios."

In small markets, like the one here in Cali-fon-ia -- Jiffy Lube is the proud purvey of "The Traffic Lube Traffic Center" where "Traffic and Weather Together" reins supreme.

Maybe Papa John's Pizza will be next with those "Local on the 8's"! Or 5's. Or 2's.

Maybe "The Lamptimer" can do "Signoff on the 13's, no, the 20's, no, the 32's -- brought to you by Arizona's favorite beer - Budweiser -- Anheuser Busch, St. Louis, MO. Interference from that goofy station in Santa Maria, CA -- brought to you by Coors. Golden, Colorado. Hop on the Love Train, everybody!"

And for the Funnsters -- "Sign on from the Powerade Studios of K-Fuuuuuuuuuuun!"

Well I guess in certain situations, "less is more" is good and a more appropriate approach. I did notice a lot of "labeled sponsoring", and not only on A.M., or KFYI either........

Terrestrial radio seems to have a self inflicted death wish driven solely by dumb ass decisions. What isn't lost to new technology will be hauled off by PPM, which has already smacked down a number of former legends.

How long before they sponsor EAS tests?

Probably not--I think it's sponsora non grata. The FCC didn't take kindly
to stations screwing around with EAS/EBS tests just by making them funny,
so I imagine this would be just as verboten.

However if it was allowed...

"This week's EAS test is brought to you by Janet's Homeland Security,
where our systems work! Or maybe not." ;D

LMAO...or in the case of the Buckeye Boyz, LOAO!

I have CD copy of the "Singing EBS Test" that TM in Dallas did years ago. It's pretty funny. Also one from "Happy Day Radio" where Gary Owens intones "This is a test. For the next 60 seconds, you will hear a test of the Emergency Happiness System -- this is only -- a test."

Then, a guy goes: Huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm and starts to crack up into boisterous laughter at the end.

"This concludes this test of the Emergency Happiness System." "Jingle: "Have a Happy Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay-a!"

Therer's always sponsorships available for engineering maintenance overnights. This tone, at 10 kilohertz, is brought to you by...
