What ever happen to?

What ever happen to a very popular Phx news co- anchor Mary jo ----? sorry forgot her last name. She co hosted the news at 10 on then CBS 10. I remember her telecasts from mid 80s into the nineties. After she left the news gig, she did a few 30 or 60 minute specials. Sorry wish I rememered more.

You must be thinking of Mary Jo West. Here is her bio from the Tempe Chamber of Commerce web site:

"Mary Jo West is one of Arizona’s best known TV personalities and was the first woman to anchor a newscast in Phoenix. She has won two Emmys and the Peabody Award."

She is now the communications director of Arizona First Things First.

After the KOOL-TV stint circa 1976-82, West "went network"--to anchor
CBS News Nightwatch (2-6 AM ET) from New York. Probably just to get
away from Bill Close. <grin>

Back in Phoenix a year or two later to anchor news on KTVK channel 3.

I spent the summer of 83 here in Phoenix. I remember Newswatch 10PM with Bill Close and a female co-anchor. I believe that Joe Dougherty did the weather. I had been told previously that the co-anchor must have been Mary Jo West? According to your schedule, oldiesfan, it would have been someone else. Who would it have been?

Probably Claren Scott (last seen on Cox's Channel 1, explaining your digital features).

Thanks, Michael! BTW, I enjoy watching your traffic reports!

I'd love to see you do live traffic reports from one of the cars you are testing. Now THAT would be really KOOL KMLE uh, neat. ;D
